SCRAPBOOKS

This is one way I remind myself of plants and ideas I might like to try in the future for my own garden. I find it’s a lot easier to keep a scrapbook, than to hoard the gardening magazines then have to look through them all again one by one! It’s another pastime of mine at this time of year and keeps me dreaming of the seasons on the way. Sorry the pictures are not very clear.

Hi Helenium

I've been doing the same for a quite a while and find it very useful because I can never remember things I've looked at either.

These are beautiful pictures and it's a very good idea. It is good to have the photos to refer to....I have a terrible time when I write the names of plants in my little notebook but then can't remember what they look like!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful scrapbook, Helen.

What a great idea ! :o)
Do you mind if I copy you ? I'd love to do that :)))

Great idea. I thought about doing something like that with all the hundreds of care cards I have but they are too thick and need to see both sides!!

that is such a lovely idea helenium, i used to do similar with cookery ideas but didnt think about gardening, i currently have a pile 2 foot high of magazines i am reluctant to part with ~ thanks again ~ i shall be cutting and pasting all week now!

lulu i put mine in one of those plastic folders with clear pages ~ then you can see both sides ~ you might find smaller than A4 in staples or tesco?

Lovely idea - I do similar with a 'garden wants' folder in My Pictures' on the computer but this would be much nicer to browse through.

What a fantastic idea, I'm off to buy a scrap book next week. Thanks for the Blog

That's a really nice and inspirational idea. Good blog :)

What an idea!!!! I have often thought of keeping all my mags for future reference, but this is a much better idea! Notice that in the final photo you have Dahlia 'Tahoma Moonshot' which I have just planted in to pots in the greenhouse. Fantastic isn't it? I can't wait for mine to grow....well, I can because I don't want to wish the spring away!! lol...but you know what I mean!

Thanks Mariek, That's one of the main reasons I started the scrapbooks. I would see something I thought looked nice and put it away "safely" which usually means so safe, I can never find them again!

Thanks Whiston, I too write in notebooks, and think ok I've got that written down, only to find either myself or Hubby uses the other side, then the peice of paper is thrown away! Like my 15% of Homebase voucher for todays sale!

Thanks Lulu, that's a really great idea from Stickitoffee, for you, certainly would help solve the problem of the care cards.

Hywel, it's a great way to pass time, and transport us into warmer weather, albeit dreaming! I'm only too happy sharing my ideas with like minded folks, so please be my guest, I'm delighted you like it!

Thanks Stickitoffee, that's the other reason I started the scrapbooks! I don't know if you have a cupboard like mine, but every time I was looking for something the shelf slipped and all the mags landed on the floor! Happy pasteting.

Thanks Teds, It's really good fun, I also find it relaxing, maybe becuase I'm looking at all the greenery. It would get your neighbours chatting if you left them on the tables in the carport when they come over for coffee, I find gardening chat always gets the conversation going. If you're anything like me, you'll need more than one scrapbook Teds! LOL!

Thanks Pany, thats a very nice compliment! it keeps me out of mischief!

Thanks Karen, glad you like it! That Dahlia is just stunning! I'm going to put it in the hot border, that has crocosmia, dark stemmed lobelia, ligularia, helianthus and other reds, yellows, orange colours, I can't think where else it would fit in with those colours, can you? Were yours tubers, from a specialist nursery?

13 Mar, 2011

Tubers from Sarah Ravel Aileen. I'm growing dahlias for the first time this year. This one and 'Honka'. Honka is for the front garden, which is going to be grey gravel and yellow and white flowers. As for the Moonshot, I wasn't sure where I would put it, but yes, in the hot colours might well be the best place for it. On the other hand, it would look great next to some deep violet flowers wouldn't it.

13 Mar, 2011

Thanks for that Karen! I've never looked at Sarah Ravens web site, but I will now. Ive seen those Honka's they're lovely. About the purple in the hot borders, I was thinking about putting, salvia 'Caradonna' dark purple Veronica and purple sage, in that border. Then I thought it might not look right, so I matched the colours myself and they go together lovely. Who cares if they clash anyway, if I like it then that's fine by me!

Oooh, nooo I think that will be luvverly!! :))

13 Mar, 2011

Fab idea....I do a similar thing when watching the gardening programmes or visting garden centres. I take a note book around with me jotting down the plants I like! But....... the only thing is I forget when I look back what every plant/flower looks like! The names are a bit meaningless to me! Lol
So after seeing your idea I'll now add pictures which will help me identify the plants I would like for the garden.

13 Mar, 2011

Yes, agreed, it would be great for that too. Brings an idea to mind actually....wonder if the boys could add us a 'wishlist' facility to the site!? I shall ask...they can only say no!! ;)

13 Mar, 2011

Thanks Heidi6. With the amount of plants and ideas I see in mags, I found this to be the best method when it comes to helping me remember. If I see something in a garden I take a photo if I have my camera, if not, my phone, then put it on the computer.

Karen, a wish list would help, what a good idea!

13 Mar, 2011

that's a great idea; I do that with the decorating magazines, you know, for that magical time in the future when I have thousands of dollars to spend on decorating the house.

14 Mar, 2011

Great idea Sticki, will do that!

14 Mar, 2011

:-)) glad i could help lulu

14 Mar, 2011

Wouldn't that just be great Lauram, and if you got your wish you would'nt have to do it yourself, you could have the decorators in! Hope it comes true for you!!
