Let it Snow

Well I know that not everyone likes snow, and the rest of us who do, get tired of it….But in this neck of the woods we hardly ever see snow….

Friday night into Saturday we had a snow…10" in most places….so we went out looking at it some

This little guy was in the pine tree right in front of the house…I guess he likes pine nuts!

Can you see the Northern Cardinal (a male) hidding there?

A frozen patch of water….

And pristine snowscape…shadows just stood out in the bright sun and white, white snow!

Oh and by the by…we are expecting more snow tonight and then more of it on Friday night…I guess this is our year to have all the white stuff! My daughter who lives in an area that is used to snow is NOT getting it!

It is pouring with rain this morning, and I feel happy and healthy for the first time since the before Christmas :o)))
The dark depression that has been pressing in my mind has lifted and disappeared. I really could not cope with it any more.

Sorry folks this bird in pic #1 is not a tit of any kind...it is a black capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus)

Hywel and Spritzhenry and everyone else that hates snow...I am sick of it now! They are saying another 2-3" tonite and ice and snow combined friday...grrrrrrr!

I need spring! Today is "Ground Hog Day" here...that means if the ground hog sees his shadow, another 6 weeks of winter weather....The ground hog saw his shadow.....dang it! =^..^=

2 Feb, 2010

I thought the Chickadee was in the Tit family - this bird is almost identical to a Coal Tit, have a Google and see.

So what is Gound Hog day? whats it all about, have heard of it there must be more to it than shadows.

3 Feb, 2010

Okay Bjs I went and looked it up.....

German tradition holds that if the sun comes out on Candlemas, the precursor to Groundhog Day, the hedgehog (or badger) will see its shadow and six more weeks of winter will follow. When German settlers came to Pennsylvania they continued this tradition, using groundhogs instead of hedgehogs to predict the weather.

The first official Groundhog Day was celebrated on February 2, 1886 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, with a proclamation in The Punxsutawney Spirit by the newspaper's editor, Clymer Freas: "Today is groundhog day and up to the time of going to press the beast has not seen its shadow." The legendary first Groundhog Day trip to Gobbler's Knob was made the following year by a group of spirited groundhog hunters who dubbed themselves "The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club." Clymer, a member of the club, used his editorial clout to proclaim that Phil, the Punxsutawney Groundhog, was the one and only official weather prognosticating groundhog.

So there we have it! lol :o))

I'm also fed up with this winter we are having! Yesterday we had snow showers all day here! The snow didn't stay on the ground but at times it looked just like a blizzard! Today we had a brief sleet shower early in the morning then close to 1pm we had a very brief snow shower made up of tiny balls of snow that cover everything in seconds. Fortunately it didn't last 2 mins but even so it had begun to settle on the ground.

We are forecast more snow Thursday night / Friday morning. :-(

9 Feb, 2010

Good luck Balcony...hope yours turns out to be just a dusting! :o)

10 Feb, 2010

We haven't had any snow today, Thursday, but the previous days this week we have had plenty of snow showers. I hope the snow forecast for tonight doesn't come about!

11 Feb, 2010

Well Balcony...here it is saturday, and I am finally back on ...due to the second blizzard in a week! We were lucky this time, no power outages!

But I was out in the wind and snow taking pics of birds in the feeder when my camera died!

13 Feb, 2010

Ooops! Was it the battery, or worse?

Maybe it doesn't like s**w either. LOL.

13 Feb, 2010

I found out it has a small battery along with the lithium rechargable, so I changed that, and made sure the other was fully charged...still the same problem.

But maybe someone on here knows about cameras....it is a Canon EOS Rebel 300D....When I take a pic the top 1/3 is clear and visible, the bottom 2/3's is black! !!!!HELP!!!!

13 Feb, 2010

That's a shame! I'm afraid I don't know anything about cameras. :-( I hope somebody can help you.

14 Feb, 2010

thanks Balcony..my son thinks i need a new shutter system! yikes!!!
