To day is a very sad day for me and my children. After 13 happy years, we had to put Magic down. Magic was a German Shepherd who we had as a young puppy. We sadly had to put her down today as she could hardly stand up, her legs went and she was in pain. The vet and his assistant came to our house and it was very peaceful. A don’t know what I am going to do without her by my side. Who will greet me every morning when I come down for breakfast?.But I had to do the right thing by her and I think she knew it, as she licked the vets hands!!

I would like to plant a flowering bush or a scented plant near to the bush in the garden where she hid from the sun and watched me work on the vegetable patch. Does any one know a name of a nice plant with Magic as part of it’s name?

To Magic, I hope the gates of heaven have opened and allowed you in to play with Shelia my other German Shepherd who died many years ago. I love you and I will miss you terribly.
Goodbye my friend from mum and the girls.
Rest in Peace

Aw Great, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. I Animals are so much part of the family it is so difficult when we lose them. She will always be with you in spirit and you will have so many happy memories, even some funny ones of when she got up to mischief (as most pups do!) I bet you'll catch yourself smiling as you think of her, once these early days have passed....

I did find a plant with Magic in it: "Autumn Magic" species: melanocarpa.

Common name: ChokeberrySave to scrapbookPrint page Photo Gallery
.Plant detailsCommon Name: Chokeberry
Genus: Aronia
Species: melanocarpa
Cultivar: 'Autumn Magic'
Skill Level: beginner
Exposure: full sun, partial shade
Hardiness: hardy
Soil type: acidic, clay/heavy, well-drained/light
Height: 2m
Spread: 6m

'Autumn Magic' is a great plant for year round interest in the small garden. In spring, plants are covered with attractive clusters of small white blooms, set off perfectly by deep-green waxy foliage. These are followed in summer by black fruits, which last well into winter and are good for attracting wildlife to the garden. In the autumn the foliage turns a smoky-red, before falling. Although it's a slow-growing plant, it suckers profusely to form a spreading shrub. It will grow happily in a range of soils in full sun or partial shade.

I thought it would be good for your wildlife section too, what do you think? There is a pic and info on the Gardeners World website.

Sending you lots of love, thinking of you xxx

Thank you, thank you everyone for your kind words and for all your lovely suggestions. I can't believe Magic has gone!!! It's nearly 7pm and I keep thinking I haven't heard her toss her food bowl around to remind us to feed her. It was really horrible this morning she wasen't there when I opened the kitchen door. No big soppy eyes looking up at me no wagging tail. It was awful . I hope this awful sick feeling in my stomach goes soon. I can't bare it. Once I stop crying I will have a look at all your lovely suggestions of plants and we as a family will choose 1 or 2 to plant when we get her ashes back from the vets. Thank you everyone for just being there. I really, really appreciated it xx

Sorry to hear of your loss Great. They say time is a good healer but this doesn't help in the first few days. At least you can always remember the happy times such as when she was a pup and also remember all the love she gave you. My dog (Dylan) is 12 next month and a bit arthritic (like me) and he is my world as I have no family. Hope each day gets better for you and your family. Love and best wishes xxx

Thank you so much Dylandog I just can't stop crying!!! I'm worse than the girls!!. Theres this huge hole in my life now. Everytime I go to the fridge I expect Magic to be there poking her nose under my arm to see all the goodies in the fridge. When I made cakes she sat by the oven until the ckaes came out!! She wanted one as much as everyone else. I hope in time things get better. Hope Dylan is not in pain. We gave Magic ibuprofen.. Thanks again everyone for your kind thoughts x

LOL...that is big! Early days yet, the right plant will come along....When I lost my German Shepherd 17 years ago I put the rose 'Peace' on his grave. He had been a very mentally troubled and sick dog, he had to be put to sleep before he was 2 years old. So finally he was at peace......

Think I've found the 'perfect' plant Camellia Magic Mum!!!! I am so excited, but slightly worried at the same time; have never grown a camellia before.

13 Apr, 2010

The main thing with camellias is to grow them in ericaceous compost...eith dug into the ground or in a large pot.Think its a perfect choice....evergreen too !

13 Apr, 2010

No worries, I think that is a perfect choice, I have two and if I can grow them anyone can! :o))

13 Apr, 2010

Any tips valadel??? For a complete beginner with this plant

13 Apr, 2010

Only what Bonkersbon said, I got one in the ground (25yrs old) and one on a large pot (present last yr) I think the secret is never to let them dry out, especially in the summer, that I think is when the buds are forming , anyway it works for me . Oh and ericaceous feed !
Good luck.

Thankyou everyone for your advise and best wishes x

I've just come across this site after typing 'Magic plant name' into google as we have had to have our little rabbit 'Mr Magic' put to sleep today and we too are looking for a plant with magic in the name to put next to his buried place. I'm glad to find like minded people who care about their pets and friends to make so many lovely comments and suggestions. I hope the passing of time will ease your sorrow and ours and we can start our search for a lasting memorial.
