Hi there fellow goyers, I went to a talk given by Bob Flowerdew today at our local library. I just loved it and could have listened to him for hours, he chatted as it is was for an hour and twenty and he was amusing, informative and extremely interesting. One of his many tips given during this time is when you need to get rid of weeds in concrete paths/driveways etc is to boil the kettle and pour the scalding water over the weeds and it kills any unwanted seeds and the weeds. This he said might have to done twice in a season and also if you have any water left…..make tea ! I purchased one of his books called ‘Fruit’, full of recipes and important info and he signed it, I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon, with cake & tea served too :)

Glad to read you had a good time Grandmage. Thanks for that tip, I'm sure I won't be the only one making use of it!

This is very topical for me, Gm, as I did exactly that at Mums this morning! Her concrete driveway has Dandelions and Chickweed coming through ... boiling water definitely does the trip ... and is cheaper than buying weed-killer! Btw, does Mr. Flowerdew still have the ponytail?

I used to love watching him on tv,G...and same as Shirley, that was the first thing I thought about..his hair ! Wasn't it a long plait? I haven't tried boiling water on weeds, only ants ! but it's logical really..glad you enjoyed the talk,it sounded really interesting..:o)

Hi girls, thanks Scottie, and Shirley I have never heard of the boiling water method til today, (except for ants as B. says) such a cheap idea too and yes B. he still has a pony tail very neatly plaited and he said he rarely washes his hair except when he does he uses a beaten egg with cider vinegar and combs it through then rinses, he doesn't believe in shampoo as it strips the hair of it's natural oil!! He was full of all sorts of interesting info.
