I like Nasturtiums, but they do seem to attract a lot of black fly

Is that like a regular fly, Maureen? This is the first year that I've grown them...so I haven't noticed anything like that.

I have them every year and haven't noticed flies. I also wonder what the black fly is. :-) I like putting them in by spring things because they'll fill up the area and color up all fall. And i can spice up a salad. :-)

I planted these late last fall and got a flower or two before winter. We did eat one in our salad. It was good... a little spicy like you said :)

black fly is a type of aphid Tastey....They really love nasturtiums and the plants can get absolutely swamped with them.

Thanks Gilli :) I thought that was what it might be...I see black aphids on my succulent flowers a lot... I hate those little buggers!!

I have nasturtiums that come up on their own just about anywhere they have been...have not noticed anything aphid like on them...

I get them up here too Tastey. Horrible things. I didn't used to have too much of a problem with them at the coast Cat. Maybe they like hotter, drier weather?

Oh no...hotter...drier weather, that's me for sure.
