Lindalooloo:

Thanks! It's one of my favorite flowering trees.

I can see why. :o)

My Spathodea was knocked flat during Cyclone Yasi. It took out a fence panel on its way down and landed in our neighbour's yard. The root ball was ripped out of the ground and left exposed. Even after it was trimmed back, there's new growth popping up everywhere. It takes a lot to keep a good Spath down!!

Yes, once they're established they can be cut to the ground and will usually come back very quickly! So glad to hear it's on it's way back up again! :>)

Will that take much longer?

10 Jul, 2011

Balcony:

The other buds are almost ready to open with all the heat and humidity we've been having here.

10 Jul, 2011

How are the buds coming on? Have you many more flowers open now?

16 Jul, 2011

Balcony:

There's probably about 10 more flower spikes developing now...and some are about to open very soon. It's still a small tree, however, it should bloom for many months to come. Large trees can bloom from May - November or sometimes into January.

how amazing! like a tropical rhodedendron? will those green buds in the middle open as flowers or are they seeds?

5 Mar, 2013

Yes, the buds are very ornamental with soft hairs. The buds also contain water.

5 Mar, 2013

clever as well as beautiful

5 Mar, 2013

Yes, usually birds get squirted with water when they want to open the buds. That's funny.
