Pileostegia viburnoides - 2010 (Pileostegia viburnoides)

This plant always elicits questions when the garden is open, even when not in flower

I really like this shrub, guess its evergreen. Do you dead head the flowers after Andrew. I wanted Aruncus but it looks so "dirty" after flowering.

Tetrarch - although this looks evergreen, it isn't. Yes I deadhead it after flowering as, with many white flowered shrubs, the flowers turn brown as they go over. Although this shrub is self clinging, it will only do so if growing strongly - I give mine a good feed plus a mulch of garden compost early each spring

So, its a climber then?

Yes, it's related to the climbing hydrangeas. Give it a shady wall or fence. May eventually get to twenty feet given ideal conditions; mine gets cut back to six feet each spring and has made a couple of feet growth by the end of the season

What an unusual plant, is it hardy?

Totally hardy - hasn't minded the last two winters at all
