Goldfish plant in bloom.. (Nematanthus gregarius)

They seem to bloom much more- fall -spring. Highland tropical plants that prefer cooler temps.

It looks great! My plant blooms best during fall and winter, also.

As funny as this sounds, the one called the Guppy plant- its a little more reddish with fine horizontal stripes on the blooms, was the one I had that bloomed almost all year 'round. Killed off in 1990. I had that one since the early 80's.
Hummingbirds like these plants.

Sorry to hear about your guppy plant! :>(( I know I lost a lot of plants in that 1990 freeze.

Yes, my goldfish plant is food for hummingbirds. They nest starting in January here. There's so many of them around here. They love all the winter-flowering plants/trees.

Fancy having nesting hummingbirds! What sort of nest do they make - should look it up I suppose, perhaps you could post a blog if you find one.

Looked it up - aren't they delightful, unbelievable and somehow magical. You can't believe that something that small can survive, bird-wise that is, not counting beetles and things!

Honeysuckle:

Hummingbird's nests are very small. It's amazing they can all fit into such a tiny nest! Typically, there's two eggs and they hatch in late January into early February. By the end of February the baby hummingbirds have all flown away from the nest.

I've had several hummingbird nests outside my back door in the tropical guava tree over the years. Last year I think crows destroyed the hummingbird's nest, unfortunately.
