Myrrhis odorata

AndrewR

By Andrewr

Myrrhis odorata (Myrrhis odorata)

The herb Sweet Cicely. Can grow up to six feet but usually about half that height for me. For a moist but well-drained soil in part shade. Deadhead the flowers as it self-sows quite prolifically; the stems seem to attract blackfly just under the flowers as well

I really like umbellifers (even variegated ground elder, I'm afraid). This Sweet Cicely comes into the "what is a weed?" category, but the leaves, with their pale patches go well with your ferns, I should think.
I get a wild angelica which looks almost as effective as the cultivated variety.
