Closeup of Summer snowflake

Closeup of Summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum)

This flower comes out in the middle of March every year. Why is 'Summer' capped, though it comes out in Spring ?

There are only two species in the Leucojum genus - L. vernum (Spring Snowflake) and L. aestivum (Summer Snowflake). L. vernum blooms early Spring (late February and March), and L. aestivum in late Spring (April/May, but may continue into June (early Summer). "Summer snowflake" is also much taller than the "Spring Snowflake". So, at this time of year, this one should be L. vernum. Any help to you?

Hi David

Thanks for your help. I didn't know there are only two species at all. Perhaps, mine is L. vernum. I think an incorrect tag was attached to the pot on sale.
