A beautiful little flower and more blooms to come !

Not so small - it's about 7 to 8cm across Amy.
Loads more to come, and my other two species have got a wriggle on too.

That about sums it up Milky!

It looks terrific! I can't believe you can grow this plant well. I've tried and had one blooming twice. It never grew very well...I think the bugs kept eating the tubers.

Thanks Delonix! It's the easiest of the "tropical" vines to grow in northern Europe. The only part of growing them that is "tricky" is not overwatering them as they break their dormancy.

I guessing you have to lift the tubers in winter and then replant them in spring?

My plant was in the ground for two years...then the tubers were gone. I'm guessing they were eaten by bugs.

I don't mess about planting them in the garden....................

Just trying to make the point that they're not rocket science.............

19 Jul, 2014

It may not be rocket science; however, when you have bugs eating the tubers they can be a challenge.

According to Sunset's Garden Book this vine is suppose to evergreen here in San Diego...that definitely wasn't my experience. The top of the vine would die to the ground in late fall and then grow back in March.

As you know each tuber is monocarpic, so I wonder if the real damage gets done when the baby tubers are just emerging?

20 Jul, 2014

That's a strong possibility.
