Garcinia humilis - Achacha Tree

Garcinia humilis - Achacha Tree (Garcinia humilis - Achacha Tree)

My Achacha tree just put out some new leaves. Unfortunately, I didn’t get them earlier when the leaves first came out, they’re pink and red. Photo taken July 20, 2022.

How big will your tree eventually grow?

Very tender fruit tree. Out if my range or if it did survive to fruit not be very sweet as sometimes happens with zone pushing.
I saw a garden vid from Vista ca,and she went right by a huge Jade plant- at least 8' tall. It grew in a V shape. Interesting.

Related to Mangoes. Same thing with leaf color changes.

Balcony,

In the ground potentially 30 ft tall. Although, 15 to maybe 20 ft here in many years. It’s a relatively new introduction to the U. S. from the Amazon Basin.

It’s a pretty tough plant considering its tropical origin. I think you may possibly have a chance of growing it in Hayward.

It’s related to Clusea. And in the same genus as mangosteen. Mangosteen is of course way too tropical to grow in SD. It loves very hot, very humid wet equatorial climates.
