Lupin

Lupin

This lupin was grown from seed this year.it is one of a small number left on my nursery but the leaves have a bit of mildew so I'll treat that and overwinter them and sell them next year .

I start them off indoors in an unheated room in early April in a standard sized seed tray and they germinate within about 7-10 days .I pot them on into 7cm pots about 2-weeks after germination and harden them off in a coldframe.

About 25% flower in august/September and as soon as I see flower buds I pot them on into 1 litre pots to sell 2-3 weeks later. The remaining non flowering plants are over wintered in the 7 cm pots and potted on for sale the following spring.

A 39p packet of seeds often yields 100 plants.

What do you treat the mildew with Anchor?

On the rare occasion I needs to I use Roseclear 3.

Lupins are virtually the only thing I seem to have problems with and I may stop growing them and move on to a pest free plant.
