I like this too :) did you grow this from seed or purchase as a plant?
Does your thistle not seed everywhere?

I purchased it from my local GC this year around march/april its called silver spikes, i have a real thistle growing next to my greenhouse and in its early stages of growth it looks almost identical, the flowers have gone now only lasting a week or so, if i can work out how it seeds itself i shall have a go at growing some more..... hope i helped you in some way.

Thanks Windy. I always thought that thistle seed from the hairy bits on top. Obviously I'm wrong. I also thought they were perceived to be an invasive weed. Just goes to show what I know about our national plant :))
