Lovely planting and use of pots, I was planning something similar in my head under a pergola. Now i will be doing something similar...

Thanks for your comments...theyre just cheap plastic pots from a Poundshop, (typically three for a pound)...look for pots that aren't too brittle, they will last throughout the winter...and if you're going to bury them as I have it's best to use a rough saw to take the bottom of the pot off...this will let the roots through to the soil underneath without impeding the growth, but still "contain" the growth above ground. I formed the circle shape with the outer pots first, then built up the soil in the centre which holds the larger pots contaning the Acers and the Cordyline, before laying down lumps of Sedum taken from elsewhere to "bind" the piled soil.
