Scarlet Lily Beetle

Scarlet Lily Beetle

Now I know why my lilies failed to flower......

They also have a penchant for Fritillaria and Tricyrtis!

Hmmmmm.... well thankfully, my Tricyrtis has remained untouched. However my clematis and passiflora didn't even get a chance to spread, let alone flower due to the new growth being nibbled, so too my cornflowers and lupins. I can't imagine that to be the lily bugs, but I haven't found the culprit for that yet...... I'm starting to wonder if it isn't earwigs - my garden seems to be overrun with those this year!

Leaf cutter bees maybe? They like to return to the same plant.

Leaf cutter bees?! I've never heard of those, I've heard of the ants...... How can I tell - do you have any advice? Thanks, by the way :)

They're solitary bees that are quite dark in colour. Loved by the horticultural trade as pollinators apparently.

There does seem to be an abundance of earwigs about this year, I've had more than my fair share too...
