A close up of the Fiddle-leaf fig. This tree in Balboa Park is more than 50 feet / 15 meters tall. It was loaded with figs. Photo taken Jan. 28, 2010.

Fiddle-leaf fig is a very tropical tree native to Cameroon, Africa. It really hates cold or cool conditions. Freezing temps even for a very short period of time will usually kill the tree...even a very large tree will be severely damaged.
