Cotinus is nice too, dark foliage, but it can get quite big if you don't keep an eye on it!
I have a picture of one on my page, just waiting for a space to plant it!

I love the dark plants. I have a physocarpus 'diabolo' and acer palmatum atropurpureum and my favourite of all is my Cercis Canadensis 'Forest Pansy'.
