My sweet potato rooting

Well, Wagger I have had this sweet potato for quite some time and it started sprouting these pretty leaves on one end. So I went online and found that you can root them like an avocado seed. So the base is just barely in the water. The roots appeared very quickly, in a about a week. I just cut the piece off that was sprouting. I'm not sure when I plant it if I should bury the potato or just put the roots in soil??? Anyone know the proper procedure???? Thanks
