Container Garden

Container Garden

I got the idea for this after seeing pictures of 'Fairy Gardens' and wanted to try something similar. I'm pretty happy with it but for the little house, all I did was shaped a piece of tufa rock and hot glued pieces of bamboo stakes on for the roof. Eventually I will make a new house for it once I get more cement. I'm also going to add a few more small plants/moss and remove some rocks. Has anyone else tried one of these?

In case you are wondering what the blue conifer is, it is Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Pembury Blue'. I grew several from cuttings and they seem to grow very slowly, so it seemed like an appropriate fit for a container.

My grandmother used to encourage us to do these when we were children. I might just have another go!

They are fun to make, it seems like all the best ones I have made have been given as gifts. My mom and grandmother love them so I enjoy making them :)

I used broken up pieces of hyper-tufa for the rocks in the container, am curious what everyone else uses for decorative stone? It seems like rock choices are fairly limited here, I can only easily find the following: pea gravel, river rock, western sunrise and red lava. I just found an ad for limestone though and I am considering getting 2 tons.
