Milky:

Do you grow this plant from seeds because it's not
available in the local nurseries? or just for fun?

24 Jun, 2009

Just for fun Andy.......They are easily available, but when you grow it from a little bit of fluff, which is what the seeds are like.....you really feel you have achieved something. So yes ...just for fun

Milky:

That's what I thought...however, I had to ask. LOL!

My neighbor has a 20 foot Callistemon citrinus - Bottle Brush tree in their yard which hangs over on my side of the yard over my tent...and I constantly have to sweep the red stamens off the tent and concrete.

I couldnt imagine one that big...It must be lovely...

Milky:

It is nice in someone else's garden...however, not in mine. LOL!

They are very, very messy trees...especially when they are tall/large. They bloom all year...so you have red stamens falling constantly.

Oh dear.....well thank goodness they only bloom for a short while here Andy....

Milky:

I almost took a photo of the big mess of stamens I was cleaning up this evening. The red stamens were everywhere...mixed in was spider webs. Yuck!

My neighbor once a year will cut the whole top of the tree off (literally), however, it puts on 6 or 7 feet of growth very quickly.

That gives me hope that I can cut this back quite hard then Andy.....Its got more than a little leggy.....

Milky:

They respond well to pruning...however, I'm going on the experience of large trees in the ground.

25 Jun, 2009

Well I have to give it try....

25 Jun, 2009

Milky:

I'm sure it will be fine...they are very tough plants.
