Diohio's Garden

Loosestrife, Fringed

Genus: Lysimachia.

Species: Lysimachia ciliata.

A native wildflower that just showed up in my garden one year. I first found it at the edge of the woods along my driveway. I've scattered seeds into my sunny flowerbed and this year I got two plants that were enormous and much more full of blooms than plants that are in shady areas.
Traditionally, the plant was placed between yoked animals to prevent them from fighting. Loosestrife has also been used in herbal medicine for its tranquilizing effect, though no scientific evidence has been documented.

The plants created a nice bright sunny spot in the garden.
