Lori's Garden

Segina subulata

Species: Segina subulata...Irish Moss.

I have this mat forming ground cover in two varieties...one is larger leafed and hardier in a light yellow green, with tiny white flowers and the other is shorter leaf, tighter clumping dark emerald green with tiny white flowers...It is good for areas of moderate foot traffic... and is good on slopes. I've used it as a substitute for turf but it likes shade and will tolerate full shade very well. It is at it's best when kept moist and given a light top dressing of compost spring and fall...
