Zinnia

Genus: Zinnia.

Species: Zinnia elegans.

in my climate zone this wonderfully colourful plant is an annual... it is susceptible to powdery mildew and it seems that bees, ant and earwigs love to cut their leaves...but only for a short period and usually with no lasting damage to the plant...they are sturdy, tall and a good middle ground plant for colour punctuation..their colours are always pure and bright from a zingy orange to a very potent yellow , to pure carmine red and magenta, fuchsia and pinks... sometimes with dual coloured petals...upper surface pink...lower surface white or greenish white... planted with Dahlias they can hold their own in the colour department but the size of the blossom is standard...with only moderate enlargement as they scenesce... they also add colour variety when planted with rudbeckia and echinacea...
