Diohio's Garden

Grass, Blue-eyed

Genus: Sisyrinchium.

Species: Sisyrinchium angustifolium.

Blue-eyed Grass is not really a grass but is in the Iris family. It's a perennial native of Ohio. There are several species so I'm not sure exactly which one I have in my yard, but I'm thinking probably Sisyrinchium angustifolium. There are over 40 species in North America. Unlike iris, it has fibrous vertical roots, but like iris, this flower is made up of 3 sepals (leaves that look like petals) and 3 petals.
Some people consider this a weed but I like any blue flower. If you have this in the garden it's best to make it because when not in bloom it can be mistaken for normal grass.
