Joclark's Garden

Linear male fern

Genus: Dryopteris.

Species: Dryopteris filix-mas.

Planted Oct 07 front garden front NE corner.
Semi-evergreen. Tall slender fern w. thin airy fronds.
Moist, humus-rich soil but will even tolerate quite dry soils. Good under trees.
H: 90 cm, S: 90 cm.
Remove old fronds in spring after last frost to allow new fronds to unfurl. A light organic fertiliser fees 3-weekly from late spring to mid-summer wil produce large, lush fronds. Allow to mature & harden before winter. Protect in severe weather by mulching crown. In hot dry conditions a fine spray of weater will refresh & humidify.
