Scotsgran's Garden

Androsace septentrionalis

Genus: Androsace.

Species: Androsace septentrionalis.

The smallest member of the primula family in my garden. I grew it from seed sown on 1.3.14, from the SRGC seed exchange. The flower is tiny only 0.5cm in diameter. It should flower through until September. Its common name is Northern Fairy Candelabra. The inflorescence consists of a number of short flower stalks which spread from a common point, somewhat like umbrella ribs. The whole plant is only 3-5 inches high. It is variously described as a HHP or annual. It is common where it flowers so probably self sows ripe seed. Apparently it becomes more visible as it dies becoming shades of bright maroon.
