Autumnleaves66's Garden

Verbena Bonariensis

I have a tiny plot in the front of my house, on the LH side, which has had 2 of these plants growing for several years; but this year, after neglecting my garden last year due to other things on my mind (next door neighbour building an extension) I had allowed very tall weeds to grow. My neighbour, passingby, said one day "I like your weeds Rene."....to which I replied "well, I do not know what they are, I am waiting for them to bloom".(this was said with an ironic feeling of wishful thinking!") Actually, set among these tall dark green plants, the Verbenas looked at home. But after that remark I had to act. So, next day I took all the weeds out, leaving nice open ground. then I ordered (this will be for permanent growth, so worth investing for a long time) 9 Verbenas, 4 Shasta Daisies (Phyllis Smith, the shaggy ones) and, for the front of the plot, to grow over the edge of my low wall, 2 Geranium Rosanne, which have lovely light green foliage and large mauve flowers. I feel so smug, I am waiting for my neighbour to notice the improvement, which happened within 2 days, as I bought the plants from Crocus, and they deliver the next day. I spent a long time cutting up the large cardboard boxes they came in for recycling! Feel I have done my bit this week.
