Wood Poppy, Celandine Poppy

Genus: Stylophorum.

Species: Stylophorum diphyllum.

Wood Poppy is a perennial native of Ohio only growing in the eastern half of the state and there are two colonies of it in our back woods. Years ago I transplanted a few to the front yard and now I have many colonies of it growing. It's a bright yellow spring wildflower that just won't quit. It will bloom off and on from spring until frost.
Stems and seed capsules have a yellow juice that turns black and will stain your hands.
