Grass (Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus')

1 Dec. 2010, from 4 seasons in St. Pardoux Issac. 3 euros.

Planted temporarily by the musa basjoo (right hand side). Maybe I should move it to somewhere because it can be very tall. I don't want it there permanently.

An elegant reed-like grass, this has narrow stems clad with slender arching cream-striped leaves forming upright clumps. In late summer, the plants are topped by pale feathery plumes of flowers which can be cut and dried for flower arrangements. In autumn, the stems and foliage gradually dry out leaving a russet brown skeletal shape which can form a fairly architectural attraction throughout the winter. This is a good plant for adding foliage detail to a perennial border or among shrubs, provided it is in full sun. It is best of all in a collection of grasses and foliage plants.
