Cherieschroff's Garden

Leptospermum scoparium, tea tree

Genus: Leptospermum.

Species: Leptospermum scoparium.

I have been having trouble with this plant, for the last month. It was doing great before then and I bought it locally from a nursery, four months ago. I really haven't done anything different, in terms of its care. We did have some really cloudy days, here in san jose, California, followed by a few very warm days, this is when the formerly beautiful pink flowers began to die quickly and the tree became a lighter green. There has been continual pink buds on the tree, but when they attempt to bloom they crinkle and dry up, instead. I visited another forum and some owners had claimed this plant to be 'drought resistant' and some have killed it with 'over-watering', while others claim the soil needs to be kept moist. I'm rather confused. I have now been watering it when the soil becomes rather dry, about an inch of water, uniformly. I know it's not dead yet, but it looks like it's on it's way. It is still in its original container and receives plenty of sun. Please let me know how I can save this initially gorgeous tree, it's part of a recent memorial garden and I would hate to see it die. It stands about 36'' high.

Thank you, sincerely.
