The Garden Community for Garden Lovers

Stuck in a glut !

Well, today is our first Seed and Produce swap at work and it has been a mixed morning, not very busy as its raining !!
But on a positive note I swapped some Strawberries for some peas, a packet of carrot seeds for a thyme plant and runner beans for some oak leaf lettuce.
There seems to be an abundance of courgettes but a quick check on google and you can find 100s of recipes.
We also except a donation for produce if you have nothing to swap.
All in all its about getting together with like minded people and bringing the local community together.
Looking forward to the next one at the end of August !!

If your nearby to Romford
pop along to Essex Wildlife Trusts Bedfords Park Visitor Centre on the 28th August or September 25th starting at 10-30am to swap your seeds or excess produce.

I echo Tulsalady26s' comments. Do you charge for entry or provide teas etc. I think this could be a money spinner or at least a good way of attracting more visitors to Suntrap. I volunteer there and we are in danger of closing because the Agricultural College which ran it on behalf of the NTS are pulling out at the end of August.

I echo all the sentiments what a wonderful cheap (free?) idea. I hope it catches on as a good idea!
