A new challenge

It’s a while since I wrote a blog. We moved house just over a month ago and, as you can imagine, life has been very busy!

We now have a north-facing garden measuring approx 35ft by 25ft. I know north-facing gardens are not ideal but the house is perfect for us :) However, since being here we are pleased to find that we get rather a lot of sun, especially in the far right corner where I am hoping to have a greenhouse :D It is obviously in need of some tlc, the last owners seem to have made it extremely low maintenance with no lawn and plants that more or less look after themselves. Most of the garden is paved with a big shed right where the sun shines most of the day (this is going to be moved to the shady part of the garden next year!) There’s also a border running up the left side which is mostly in shade.

We were able to bring some of our favourite plants with us from the old house as we had lots in pots. I’ve been busy planning what I am going to do with it all, I would love a lawn but with a dog I don’t fancy facing winter with muddy, wet paws everyday! So… I’m looking at artificial grass. I’ve priced up a suitable lawn at about £600 including fitting (don’t tell hubby!). Also hoping to have a couple of raised beds for veggies and another border on the sunny side of the garden.

Oh, and something quite novel for us, a front garden :D What am I going to do with that… Time will tell hehe. Hopefully I’ll be able to upload some pics soon so it all makes sense!

will you plan somewhere nice to sit?

I sure will, I've got a nice sunny spot in mind for my swing seat. I love sitting out enjoying the garden as well as working in it! Also the patio area gets the sun just in time for dinner so we can sit out in the evening and dine al fresco :D

I'll be looking out for updates as your plans progress...have you seen the artificial grass in situ?....it sounds as if it would be a solution with your winter nightmares of muddy paws :)

Good luck with your dreaming, planning and planting of your new garden, CEmma.
