Please can any member tell me if they have had problems with Westland multi purpose compost. I have been using it for a few years without any problem until last year when I noticed it had a lot more straw content and when I used it for my container grown daffodils the results were very poor with hardly any flowers, upon emptying the containers the bulbs all appeared to be suffering blossom end rot and I discarded them all but tulips grown in the same way had no problems. Has any member had the same problem and can they recommend the best multi purpose compost they have used?
Thank you

I found for the last couple of years most of the compost I tried had lots of stones and big pieces of twigs etc. in it. The best one I have found is Erin multi purpose, not expensive either.

I used Levingtons multi purpose for many years until it deteriorated about 3 years ago. Since then I've tried various, including Westland and not found any of them totally satisfactory apart from B&Q. I used this after reading Which reports in which it came top and I've been very satisfied with it including the price. The only problem is that B&Q are not very local to me so I sometimes have to make do with other brands.

I found Westland wasn't as good as it used to be..but saying that,I was tempted last month with a free 50 litre bag,for every £10 spent..so I got two ! ..Seeing as I had garden vouchers that were burning a hole in my pocket..I actually only parted with 45p cash ..so I am prepared to buy some better stuff for some things,or mix it :o)..I think Wickes own brand is ok too..

Yes that's the one I use when I can Costus. Last year it was in a light purple bag but may have changed the packaging now.
