Delphinium and more

Well, what a miserable week that was! Had all those nice plans for work in the garden, so many plants to plant and pictures to take, and the rain just didn’t stop coming. Just to make it worse it kept brightening up before it rained again, giving me hope every time…. During one of my attemtps to work outside even the neighbour shouted at me to just let it go and get out the rain! :-) Still managed few things.

Delphinium belladonna started flowering already! Had it last year for the first time and I absolutely adore it. It has the brilliant blue flowers of the giant Delpfiniums but actually mingles in with the other plants instead of taking all the space to itself! The large delphiniums take to much space for me and that’s a great replacement.

The Ivy column is one of Mark’s (the husband) projects. It’s generally flowers for me and green things for him, especially Ivy. The laburnum is not mine but I can nick the view ;-) The garden belongs to an elderly neighbour who pretty much doesn’t know the garden exists (He’s on a second floor and never goes there), which is a shame really. Someone cared about this garden in the past, it’s full of flowering trees and shrubs and lots of spring bulbs, somehow the weeds aren’t taking over them.

Couple of more of Mark’s work, the gate and the arch

Heuchera ‘Blackberry Jam’ growing like mad. To think that I was worried about it dying over the winter when it was all covered with snow!

Just few more Aquilegia pictures, can’t do without them…

Wow, I actually wrote a blog! I always mean to and never do…. Hope I wasn’t to boring ;-)

That was a great blog. I love Ivy aswell and I'm trying to get it to spread in my garden. The delphinium is nice. I always think the other types are too big.

Thank you all for your kind comments! :->> Maybe the blog monster isn't that scary...
I started with the large Delphiniums and realised quickly they take to much space for me and don't suit my garden, as much as I love the flowers. D. belladonna was quite the life saver :-) I'm trying Delphinium grandiflorum and annual blue larkspur this year, so hopefully will have some more pretty blue.
LOL at the kettle Bloomer. But did you notice how the kettle takes ages if we watch it but if we don't stand over there we forget it ???
My name says it all about the aquilegias. They're one of the first seeds are started for my garden and I absolutely fell in love :-) I keep saying to myself I have enough of them but I still get more (and leave some to self seeds) every year.

Love the blog, the delphinium and the Ivy :) Most of my relations with ivy involve me pulling it up, but you've made wonderful features of it in your garden :) I love the delphinium, and have one floweringn in the greenhouse, but I let it get too straggly, so waiting for it to finsih flowering so I can cut it back and put it out. How do you prevent the slugs from getting at yours?

try beer traps Jennyfer, they seem to work.

The Delphinium is on a raised bed and there are hosta, Lobelia cardinalis and other slugs delights low to the ground so that's probably why :-) Why bother spending energy on climbing???
The Ivy features credits go to Mark, he's got great mind for stuff like this. Of course, he regrets is great ideas everytime because that means more work for him ;-)
(Every bit of hard landscaping in the garden is his work, the poor thing!)

hehe, awww :)
I think my dad bought some 'slug trap' things to put beer in... and I remember my mum making them out of plastic bottles when I was little to protect the veg... I still feel too cruel killing them (silly, I know), so might try them in pots first with some copper tape.
and I like the thought of that Columbine... lazy slugs lol :P (with beer guts;) and I think his hard work definitely pays off... it looks really good :)

Lol, you've given me the 'slug with beer gut ' image now :->>

20 May, 2011

hehehe, sorry about that! I'm sure its a vision of delight ;)

20 May, 2011

Yeah, I'll need a drink to wash the vision away ;->>

mwahaha! just don't start associating beer with the image... might spoil it for life ;)

Thankfully I prefer wine :-)
And nothing can ruin a good drink anyway!!!
