the same here Clarice, so much rain its killing all the hanging baskets and tubs, rained all night, dry today so we managed to get to the food and drink festival, but trying to rain again now, Lobelia all ready to be pulled out, and its only August, Begonia flowers laying all over the place.

12 Aug, 2011

Snap my lobelia needs pulling out now, Shirley it stopped for abit about 3-30 but still it was very dull, and now it looks like its going to pour it down again,Holly there are quite afew pots that needs to be empty, as like Yorkshire the heavy rain and wind as ruined them :((

I know how you feel. We've been sticking the heating on. It's so miserable (and cold). What can you do?

12 Aug, 2011

Absolutely nothing, Sheila! ..... No heating on down here yet, just a fleece top added on ... :o((

12 Aug, 2011

you are having it bad this year Carol, and when you think how much work goes into trying to have a lovely display,it's so demoralising..i think we have fared quite well,in comparison to you, this year....although,like Yorkshire,we had heavy rain during the night....Why don't you both try cutting your Lobelias back,as they usually go on to flower again, late into autumn ? I have done mine,as I know they start looking so straggly..but worth a try..

12 Aug, 2011

Hi Bloomer thanks for telling me about cutting lobelia back, i will give it a go tomorrow, its been dry today everyone been in garden most of day, cleaning up the grass is so wet can't cut it, but if it stays dry over night i should be able to cut it (fingers crossed)

13 Aug, 2011

I'm sure they will be lovely again,Carol..and it doesn't take so long for them to flower.Mine have never failed,so go for it..they will be more bushy too..hope it's been better weather for you today, its been nice here..not much sun,but quite warm and pleasant..
