The Savill Garden

On Tuesday I went to the Savill Garden, part of the Crown Estate, Englefield Green, Surrey, on a coach trip with our local Horticultural Society. We were fortunate that it turned out to be a perfect day weatherwise, and we all enjoyed our visit. A wonderfully spacious garden of lots of lovely walks and plenty to see. The rose garden was superb and the Temperate House, the lakes, herbaceous gardens, the hidden gardens. Here are a few photos to whet your appetites..

Cornus Kousa ‘Satomi’

Couldn’t find the label for this one,

Water was circling all the time and going down the centre, fascinating to watch.

What a wonderful place to visit, a lovely setting and the flower displays are beautiful and I was so pleased to see a picture of Astrantia Venice as I have just bought this one to start a little collection, got my eye on that Sempervivium too. Great pictures Cinders and thanks for the visit ;0)

Glad you enjoyed it PP. I liked that Astrantia too, so I shall be on the lookout for that, and I like the blue Sisrynchium too, I feel that my rockery could do with some blue on it. They had a small nursery there but couldnt find it there so bought a prostrate blue Veronica.

It must be more than 40 years now since I visited the Savill Garden, and I can't really remember much of the details (so many gardens visited in between ) EXCEPT for the great swathes of the most enormous, perfect Gunnera plants. And there they are! Happy memories! Thank you, Cinders.

Can anyone jog my ageing memory with the name of the pretty magenta succulent in the last photograph, please? I've got it in my garden, and I KNOW it isn't really a Mesembryanthemum. It's a Perennial, right?

28 Jan, 2013

Yes it is a perennial, but unfortunately I cannot help with the name as I couldnt find a label for it. Sorry Gattina
