Heuchera in bloom

Thought you might like to see the Heuchera in bloom. Plus a little visitor in my garden. Seems to have made his home under my verbascum leaves, as he is there every day, and he is very welcome. Sorry the picture is not brilliant, but a bit difficult to photograph what with holding a leaf up as well.

Don’t know the name of this one

Gorgeous Heucheras cinderella, I hope your new friend is keeping the slugs away :)

Love the red flowers on the second Heuchera ... lucky you to have a toad (or frog?) ... he'll ensure yours is a slug/snail-free garden! : o )
Ha ha, Ydd, posted at the same time!

Lovely Heucheras Cinders. And your little friend. :o)

Thank you all, - YDD and Shirley, I am hoping he keeps the slugs etc away. There are usually a lot where he is living, thats probably why he is there. I've given him a large dish with stones in and water, hopefully to encourage him to stay. Shirley I like the red flowered one, but I don't know its name unfortunately.

Thanks Pamg and Gilli too, glad you like the Heuchera.

Hi Cinderella can I ask - did you place the dish near some shelter so he has somewhere to quickly hide if he senses danger. I grow plants all round my pond so they are not in the open to much.

Drc I have just added a photo of the dish, and he is hiding under the large leaves. Do you think I should cover it some more.

those heucheras are really good. did you put the bowl of water there for the frog?

28 May, 2011

Yes I did Sticki

28 May, 2011

Beautiful Heucheras, and I love the little froggies unfotunately so do my cats !

I think your Heuchera may be red spangles,Cinders..it looks like the ones I have had for many years..Have you had it a long time? It had never heard of Heuchera's before, and my neighbour gave me some at least 15 years ago..and the only one I ever had ..till you sent me some.! ..I love your little friend...:o))

Frogs are very vulnerable to cats etc, so need somewhere to hide quickly. if they have to cross open lawn/area to get to the pond/water then they may soon be caught. Shrubs and thick ground cover is good as they can play dead in there till the danger is gone.

28 May, 2011

Sticki you could try that.

Thanks Val.

Sandra, thanks for that. I only bought it last year, it was going cheap as no label. Its a lovely red flower. I have another green leafed one similar, but it has a pink flower. That came from my mothers garden years ago.

I was surprised to see him there really, but there is a river way back from my bottom fence, so I don't know how he would have got here from there, and I dont have a pond.

oh, i had forgotten how cats like frogs ~ thanks for the warning Drc ~ my previous cat used to like them ~ we have moved since and got a new cat ~ never seen a frog here but im quite sure the cat would see it!!

Cinderella they just come I built a pond and the frogs and newts arrived but frogs go back to there birth place to spawn. Stickie Toffee I had a 3 legged frog for some years after a cat bit its leg off.

were any of these beauties from Harrogate? frogs are great, i love them.

29 May, 2011

My cats bring frogs into the house but if they play dead they soon lose interest, I have rescued one or two this way.

Hi Sbg, No these were not from Harrogate, but they were from Vicky, except the red flowered one.
