Bonsai Refinement

Bonsai refinement was my task for today , only have two trees left after being away for 6 month , which is somewhat refined .

Today I was working on my Crassula which I first completed in 2014 . It’s a suculant tree but gives a beautiful effect once growth has completely taken hold and has a dramtic canopy , especially once it’s pink blossoms come into play .

I’m still busy cleaning it up and will remove all dead and dying leaves from the crasulla but I’m having to cut it back at least once a week at the moment so that branches do not grow to high and plant remains in proportion .

This month , I’m giving a begginers bonsai course , have 7 people who responded but so happy to see that 3 of the people is youngsters and busy with plants instead of drinking or doing drugs .

The Crassula looks like C. tetragona, I also have one and maybe I'll try making it into a bonsai next year.

It's good that you have some young people in your class. They have so many other distractions these days.

We have one or two Bonsais scattered amongst the Acers but have more or less given up on the former now. Sold over 50 Bonsai pots to make sure we weren't tempted to start again!

How old is the Crassula, Brentsa? It must have take quite a while to get it looking so good. Wish you every success with your course.

Hywel that's so true , kids grow up way to fast nowadays and a lot of them has the wrong perception about gardening , I asked a group of kids once (I did a talk at a primary school) "what kind of person do you guys think likes to garden " ... I asked about four of them and I got what I expected , I got my gran , my mommy , girls but not one of them thought to represent a male figure , which is sad because kids tend to assume it's only for woman and always gets into garden or bonsai at a later age in life where stereotypes no longer affect their thought process and can determine for yourself what they want .

Eirlys , I think you need to get yourself some pots and start with you bonsai again .

Steragram , the Crassula is about 8 or 9 years old and grows really quickly . It actually started out as a clipping and I'm sure you could do the same . Have you ever heard of air rooting ? Well that was air rooted . I meticulously went through branches on my aunt's plant and decided which one I wanted and then air rooted the bugger. I was able to find material that could look mature almost instantly and just took some refining after that . Took about 4 years to get it where I wanted it and planted it into a bonsai pot in 2014 .

Fantastic plants and I can see they could become an obsession Eirlys!

Fascinating read Brentsa, I also read your first question and that was the same, sounds as though you are nearly starting from scratch again.. Welcome to Goy...

Thanks guys and lincsclass, I am starting from scratch again but it means lots of new prospects with space that needs filling with plants ... soo , not too disconcerting !

I am moving though and I'm worried about my plants on the journey there.... 18 hour drive and I'm sure transport companies do not care too much about plants .

But I did warn them though , I have a few trees which roots i refined in autumn and put into potts to starts root training and cut back trunks and a few branches ... not yet refined but told them it still has a good price tag on it . I was assured that everything would be tied down and safe .

But can't wait to get my new garden started , but I'll only have a little balcony to turn into my private oasis . Only problem I'll have for sure is moss growth , the climate is just way to dry.
