climbing petunias and other things

Thought you would like to see my climbing petunias

they reach almost 5 feet in length

I decided to cut back my hydrangea pan limelight, but not sure I like these massive blooms. some ten inches long and almost the same wide. Too blobby for me.

Much prefer the elegance of H. vanille fraise which I trimmed lightly. They have been battered somewhat by rain in these pics

This is my new favourite heuchera, silver gum drop, great flowers too. Should be brilliant next year.

A couple of friends cleaning up plant debris:-) Can’t help liking them:-)

I remember Floribundas blog: Summer What a Washout which was about our sluggy friends although, as I remember, she wasn’t as fond of them as I am. This summer has been a bit of a washout too I think:-)

I had no idea petunias can climb - good to know.

More of a country rambler and scrambler, it looks as if it would take over the world if it wasn't an annual! Very pretty colour, as is your new Heuchera. The Hydrangeas are also pretty, but as you say can be quite top heavy sometimes and blowsy! I can't say that I am 'fond' of slugs, but I think it's the little grey ones that do the damage, isn't it? I know that not all the slugs eat plants, but have never sorted them out, perhaps I should. This year I have seen very few slugs, some hiding amongst the stacked (thrown together rather) flowerpots and though some of the Hostas have some holes, they are not devastated. We do have Hedgehogs so perhaps they help.

Hi Bathgate, I put some in wall pots and a basket thinking they would look wonderful trailing such a long distance .... they grew sideways lol.

If I remeber rightly Honeysuckle, the big ones with a sort of orange frill underneath is called arion ater. They can be black, brown, orangey etc and do little harm. I have a lot of frogs and newts in my pond so I suppose that keeps the population down. I did start having a visit from a hedgehog, but stupidly blocked a small gap low down in my fence to stop my little barking at the dog next door. No more hedgehog, I could kick myself:-(

Well Ba, I was really enjoying this colourful blog until the pics of slugs appeared ... did you really have to include them? Yuk!! I didn't know there were climbing Petunias, a bit different aren't they? Love the Hydrangea Vanille fraise, and agree with you that H. Limelight is a bit blowsy. Very attractive Heuchera too ... :o)

Fabulous Ba, I actually like a big blowsy mop head, lol, saying that although I had plenty of flowers, they've gone over already, lack of rain around here....your Petunia's are gorgeous and look very healthy, not shutting down yet at all, I think I have that heuchera, must go and look, most of mine are in pots they do not like my ground at all, won't put any around the garden until I know I have spares, lol.. I did the same thing a few years back, DUH, realised the hogs weren't visiting, managed to create runways for the hedgehogs behind my shrubs, luckily Harriet cannot dig down trying to get underneath the fencing....

Thanks Shirley, Lincs it's been either torrential rain here or dry as a bone, dreadful summer. Remember when famous gardeners were telling us to grow prairie plants! They must have forgotten that global warming also means more rain and flooding. I hope Trump takes note:-)

Your petunias are FAB and I love the colour of them. I try to look after them and keep them well fed but they only do well for half the summer and then go into decline!!!

The vanilla fraise hydrangea is gorgeous, a real picture.

BA, I am glad that in the great scheme of things, you like slugs........because I don't!!!!

My others have gone into decline too Chris, I don't think I'll grow then again. These only look good as they're scrambling through shrubs and things. The ones in hanging baskets etc look awful, just ordered some pansies on line from Brookside nurseries, matrix sunrise, they look very autumny in their pics and good price:-).

We have a few gremlins Stroller, the pics are on some but not others, tried to send a PM and it took me ages , think it went in the end, some of my comments were disappearing again last week but think are okay now, seem to be alright on some blogs but not others, I have to go back and check, I very rarely only give a like, I always like to acknowledge a members blogs, I have never discovered why that happens, patience is a virtue so they tell me but frustration is often in the forefront these days, LOL...
