ALDRIDGE IN BLOOM

A couple of weeks ago during the fantastic Mediterranean weather Rebecca (Boo), Aislinn and I walked into Aldridge centre, known locally as ‘the village’ as Boo was having her eyes tested and I took my camera. Aldridge won a gold last year in the Urban Community category of Britain in Bloom and is representing ‘Heart of England’ in it this year. I was ably helped by a little Aislinn flower and I can assure you the poses were her own idea:o)

They have home made cakes here and a decent cup of tea:o)

but we ate outside at Simply Delicious a cafe on the High St, just to the left of this pic, looking at these lovely flowers. It felt like a holiday:o)

Heading back home now …

The occupants of this sheltered housing complex did their bit too:o)

There were lots more flowery parts, but I was having a lazy day and only shot by the shops:o)

It is great when a community pulls together and everyone does their bit towards the end result. Aislinn goes perfectly with the very pretty flowers on display and I think she enjoyed being a major part of this blog :-)

No surprise that you found a cafe on your travels!!!

Flowers make such a difference to urban landscapes don't they? It looks as though you have a little model in the making there!

Wildrose is right it is great when the community pull to together. This year my local community started a gardening community club with some land we got from the local council, it was a huge success. I will do a blog on it as soon as I can drag myself from it. Sorry B/A for waffling on about my new hobby. I love your Blog, you photos looks fantastic Aldridge looks so tidy with all the flowers And young Aislinn looks lovely

How lovely, i think a lot of not-gardening type people dont notice the lovely hanging baskets that are on display in most high streets, we have lovely big flower displays in towns near where I live and they really are beautiful and I think the people who grow them never get a word of thanks! and I think you have a budding future model in Rebecca, what a cute little girl but with a cheeky face! :-)

Thanks Summer, I think the flowers make people happier even if they don't notice them particularly, they certainly brighten the place up and, hopefully, give people a pride in their community albeit urban. Rebecca daughter) would love to think she had a model future ahead of her, but it's her daughter Aislinn my (grandaughter) who's the little poser lol. Are your local towns competing in Britain In Bloom? Have you got any pics? :-))
