I met Stroller at Walsall train station and we boldly set off on our journey. Changed train at Birmingham for a very full train to B’ham International (NEC). The train was so full that we had to stand in the space between carriages, facing a ‘first class’ door. I wisely concluded that there must be second class carriages the other side of the 1st class and so we went through, only to find the next space was even more full than the one we’d left so, feeling a little embarrassed, we turned round to trudge back through the 1st class carriage. Unfortunately the door had other ideas and I was trapped by the shoulders much to Strollers unkind amusement. She actually said she wished she’d had her camera handy! I managed to maintain an air of dignity although I was the recipient of many annoyed looks from 1st classers playing on their laptops:-(
I had tried to phone Stroller from Walsall whilst waiting at the station to no avail. I told her about it when we arrived at the show in case we lost each other and she said to try again to see if her phone was ringing out. It didn’t, but a strange man answered on the number I’d got. I apologised saying wrong number. She tried the number she’d got for me and that didn’t ring out either (I can’t stop laughing writing this) We were most perplexed…until we realised that we each had the others home number! I’d just rung her husband lol. A good job we didn’t lose each other at the Malvern Show or I’d never have got home as her OH took us. Two numpties together:-)
Anyway…to the show which gets smaller year by year.
We had only just arrived when Stroller became starstruck….Monty Don!…I was grabbed by the arm and forced to take her pic with him. She also got his autograph (and phone number probably)

You couldn’t throw a stone without hitting a celebrity gardener…here’s our Carol:-)

I don’t like grass in my little garden, but it looked nice here, very delicate.

Stroller, must be looking at Monty’s pics, this was taken at the Good Food Show, not impressed with this really either. While we were having our snack we heard James Martin in the hall so off we went agin. Stroller has some good pics of him, she’s very fond of James:-)

Now in the Marquee. This is Hardy’s Plants exhibit, much smaller than expected.

Now I found these shrubs/trees exciting. I wish I could show you how pretty and delicate looking this Styrax Japonica Pink Chimes looked, but my camera’s let me down.

Acer Crataegifolium Veitchii

How’s this for a beech? Fagus Sylvatica Franken. I’ve not seen this before.

Lollipop lobelias

Austin Roses Gentle Hermione, very pretty.

Strongest perfume without doubt belonged to Jude The Obscure, wonderful! I wonder why they named it after such a miserable book?

Quite a lot of verbascum at the show

Cactus for Hywel

The violas were lovely

Some pretties:-)

This Aemopsis Californica was a most eyecatching water plant

After the Show, we had to make our way home by train as far as B’ham New Street, then separated to catch our bus home very tired. I got home at 7.40ish, hope you weren’t much later Phyll and not suffering too much?:-)

Lovely blog BA. Had a good laugh at your antics on the train, so funny. Lovely flowers at the show, sounds like you both had a great time.

You obviously had lots of fun and enjoyed the celebs as much as the plants.....if not a little more perhaps!!!
Why do you think the event is getting smaller?
You took some really good photos and I am about to look at them again!

15 Jun, 2012

I so appreciate you as well as others going to the trouble of sharing your visits to the different shows you have! Beautiful!

15 Jun, 2012

Glad you two had a fun day,Ba.. and no mention of a Geum, anywhere! ..I think that guy in the blue jacket was the one you meant to take a pic of,..Fagus Sylvatica Franken indeed.!.you don't fool me :o)..love those Viola's ..so pretty..a tiring but enjoyable day,by the sound of it :o)

15 Jun, 2012

what a great blog, so nice for us all to share in the fun and have a good laugh with you, nice pics too. We went to the three counties as OH likes cows ,i liked the pigs as they are so naughty .

15 Jun, 2012

We did Cinders thanks, but public transport not the easiest way to travel. It's ok going, but so tiring coming back:-)

15 Jun, 2012

Hi Wildrose, I think there's just not the money around now and exhibiting at these shows is very expensive and I suppose they're afraid they couldn't possibly recoup. It's a vicious circle really, fewer visitor/buyers, fewer exhibitors. It cost £22 per ticket. The RHS would have to pay for the splendid venue, they in turn recoup from exhibitors and ticket sales I presume...exhibitors rely on sales. I would not be too keen on going next year as I was disappointed with exhibits and plants for sale and some of the prices. The first ever show there was magnificent, the floral marquees seemed to go on for ever...wonderful. Who knows though...I might go again:-)

15 Jun, 2012

Thanks Lil, do you have similar in Canada?:-)

15 Jun, 2012

Looks like you had a fab time! Get Stroller and Monty!! great blog! :)

15 Jun, 2012

Lol Bloomer, that flippin Stroller found out Alan Tichmarsh was appearing somewhere and her eyes lit up. She ran us about like a woman possessed trying to find where he was until it was too late and his show would be over. No wonder we were fagged out (is that the right expression?) She's as bad as that Yorkie! I wonder her OH lets her out alone:-) You got me bang to rights on that pic though.... can't resist a man in uniform:-)

15 Jun, 2012

Thanks Jen, I like cows and pigs lol:-)

15 Jun, 2012

Pixi you wouldn't believe...she looks so innocent, butter wouldn't melt...they're always the ones aren't they;-)

15 Jun, 2012

15 Jun, 2012

Yes,that expression is acceptable,Ba..Lol..ages since I heard it :o)..so,Stroller is a bit of a flirter is she? and you ? Your admirer looked to be straightening his tie,to look presentable for the camera..or taking it off, because he was hot round the collar ? .,,you little minx !! Lol.

15 Jun, 2012

Hi BA, must admit we were inside from the start and didnt see the rain but did hear it pelting on the roof, someone on the showgardens said yesterday was more of a washout, i think the showers kept stopping and starting today, managed to get to the Marquee when the rain stopped and looked round the showgardens before we left, got back to the car just in time before the next downpour :)

15 Jun, 2012

Lovely blog Ba . . . thanks for sharing! Phew - bit expensive though. I was at Beth Chatto's the other day, for £6. Better do a blog tomoz . . .

15 Jun, 2012

Great blog you certainly had fun ..Enjoyed seeing your pics ,thanks for sharing :)))

15 Jun, 2012

The only one that I'm aware of anywhere close to me is only in the spring. It is an indoor venue and much too crowded for me to consider attending BA.

15 Jun, 2012

Lucky Stroller....Meeting Monty...:>)

15 Jun, 2012

Eat your heart out,Ba..and look at page 13 ,end of third row,on my photo's ...I have two ! ..going back in time a bit now..:o)

Thanks for showing the cacti. I stared at that pic for ages lol I think they're wonderful :o)

16 Jun, 2012

You're welcome Niverdeen:-)

16 Jun, 2012

Not another fan Motinot! I was in the middle of an interesting conversation with an exhibitor when she grabbed my arm and pulled me over to take her pic with him...she's a lot stronger than she looks:-)

16 Jun, 2012

Hi Hywel, they were rather magnificent (if you like that sort of thing lol) I took quite a few pics. I don't think I belong with all this technology lol;-)

16 Jun, 2012

Nor I don't either. But a little bit is handy on times lol.

16 Jun, 2012

glad you had a lovely time out, mobile phones are a nuisance B/A never know where mine is, watched it on telly last night, it was agreat programme, If I had known what you looked like I could have looked out for you, your blog photo's are brilliant,

16 Jun, 2012

I was looking for them too,Yorkshire..missed some of the commentary,,as I was busy scanning the people! ..my phone is almost always switched off...slap on hands from daughter ! :o)..

16 Jun, 2012

Thanks Yorkie, I was there, you probably mistook me for Rachel De Theme :-)))
Bloomer, I don't know how to switch my phone off! Doesn't matter, no-one calls me and if it does ever ring...I panic in case it goes off before I can answer it lol:-)

16 Jun, 2012

At least you know HOW to answer it ... I don't think I'd remember what to do lol

16 Jun, 2012

Certainly are! lol

16 Jun, 2012

Enjoyed your blog and the lovely pictures, especially Stroller and Monty, did she get his phone number lol What a fun day you had, even though it was tiring it sounds as if it was worth while just to have a good laugh;0)

16 Jun, 2012

Yes Carole, she's nearly as daft as me and as for Monty's number...I'm pretty sure she got it:-)

16 Jun, 2012

Hi BA, you`ve done a wonderful blog even if folks get the wrong idea about me .... I do like men the`re so interesting to talk to, and when you get to 71 you have to search for a little excitement.lol.
Like you overall I was disappointed in the show, nowhere near as many stands in the marque and not one to really drool over.
By the way Montys number is 07846 blah de blah.

16 Jun, 2012

I knew you had it...such a flirt, thank goodness you never saw Titchmarsh there would have been no holding you lol:-) After all that messing I still can't find your mobile number I wonder whereabouts in my phone I stored it lol. Have you decided what to do with your diascias yet? I've put two of mine with a hardy fuchsia in my amphora. It's only plastic, I've had it years, but looks quite good or will once they grow down a bit:-) Isn't the weather awful? :-(

16 Jun, 2012

Thanks for Monty's number Stroller, will you pm me with the code fror Blah de Blah, I m sure he would like to hear from me lol

16 Jun, 2012

If you tell him about your trifle for tomorrow,he will be on the doorstep in the morning ! ..maybe wait till Monday? Lol.

16 Jun, 2012

Lovely blog Ba, but are you corrupting Stroller now? I remember how bad you were when we last met up..There is just no controlling you Ba..lol.. It looks like you both had a great day out despite it all. Superb blog my friend and great photos too..\0/xxx

16 Jun, 2012

She definitely is Flori, I was very shy and retiring before I met BA as Sticki will vouch for me.
Pansy - I`m sure he would especially if you promised him a knitted pullover.
BA the weather is awful rain and so cold, managed to put the diascias in, two in the back bed, two in front bed and one with a fuchsia and the heucera `blackberry jam` in a pot.
Have been trying to put a blog on but pictures keep disappearing or coming on as text.

17 Jun, 2012

Never mind Monty bloomer, I'd go anywhere for trifle:-)
Carole, I notice she hasn't given you his full number:-)

17 Jun, 2012

Thanks Flori, if I ever need a character reference I won't call on you lol:-)

17 Jun, 2012

Oooh I bet that pink goes lovely with blackberry Jam Phyl. I wonder why you can't put a blog on, I've been looking forward to seeing it and your pics of James:-) Try putting a question on here about it. I would help you myself, but don't want to blind you with science...my explanation would be far too complicated for you...only understood by the scientific community:-)

17 Jun, 2012

I've very much enjoyed your blog BA. It's always good to have a giggle with a friend at these events - along with the photo's the laughs will be what you'll always remember!

17 Jun, 2012

Thanks Petal, you're so right:-)

17 Jun, 2012

I seem to be so far behind catching up with blogs at the moment (not enough hours in the day) so, my apologies. I thought I would start my day looking before starting my jobs. It was a really lovely blog and made me laugh when I read about the train journey. I don't get to any of the shows now , so it was lovely to see all these pics. of it. It made me feel like I was going round it myself. Thanks for sharing.

26 Jun, 2012

Lol Rose, I'm just catching up on your catching up, if you see what I mean. I only get to the ones I can reach by public transport ie Malvern (coach) and GWL. I did get a lift to Malvern this year though (Stroller & OH) The problem is you can't really buy anything when you have to get on and off public transport. The coach trip drops me within walking distance of home:-)

27 Jun, 2012

A gardening friend and I used to go to the Tatton Park one, 3hour bus ride, but worth it, but now the company we went with only seem to do weekends and I don't like leaving my hubby all that time now as he has certain disabilities. But this company would allow you to fill the hold, up with as much as you liked, any size within reason. I think it was Coopers , but not absolutely sure. Usually one of the men would meet us off the bus as well.

27 Jun, 2012

Is there no-one who could pop in to your OH once in a while? I know these things are hard to arrange though:-)

27 Jun, 2012

Lovely blog Ba...made me smile x

29 Jun, 2012
