Thanks everyone..we just stayed home and chilled out in the sunshine,or should I say a shady bit..far too hot to go anywhere..This year,Skipton,in north Yorkshire, is hosting the main celebrations.,so each year will be a different town..I agree, the Rose is a beauty..but no idea which variety..glad you liked the photo too..:o) x

That is so nice to read about. Is there a Red Rose Day for those Lancastrians amongst us I wonder?!!!

1 Aug, 2013

It is nice,Chris, and has grown in popularity over the years..I don't know if Lancashire has one..I don't to recall seeing anything about it..do you want to start one? :o)

Beautiful Rose Sandra, hope you enjoyed your Yorkshire Day! dont think we have a Red Rose day in Lancashire, maybe we should start one lol

Yorkshire Day ... never heard of it.
I hope you had a nice time, and the weather was kind :o)

2 Aug, 2013

I think you should,Carole..it will give you something to do.! Lol...only kidding :o) xx

Well, you are a bit far away,Hywel,so it's understandable you haven't heard of it :o) Most of us are very proud of our roots,as you are of yours....It is also widely referred to as God's own County ..:o)

2 Aug, 2013

I didn't know that either lol. We don't get taught the important things do we ...

2 Aug, 2013

Ah well,Hywel..we still learn something new every day,so they say..some things not as important than others :o) This being one of them..must have been started by an enthusiastic Yorkshire person,I suppose. Lol .

2 Aug, 2013

Well I think it's more important and more interesting to know things like this, than dates of wars and the lives of kings and queens ... that's why I hated history in school. It's more to do with real people :o)

2 Aug, 2013

I agree Hywel..although I did enjoy History..but not the parrot fashion of having to learn dates etc..so boring ,I thought..My favourite part of History, was the Industrial Revolution period..now that WAS about every day people...at least you could relate to their skills..

2 Aug, 2013

I don't remember learning about the Industrial Revolution. All I remember of my history lessons is the name Wallpole ... but I'm not sure who he was.
I gave it up !
I find the Ind Rev interesting, because in doing a family tree, I found lots of my ancestors were involved in it.

Still running to catch up Sandra, belated happy Yorkshire day:-)

Re what you and Hywel have been saying, I always thought it odd the when talking about great works or buildings, we're told that King So and So built it or Lord Whats 'is Name created it ..... and they never mention the poor peasants and cratsmen who did the actual work:-)

I agree..where were they when the sleeves were rolled up ? I am a bit of a Luddite,myself..given my Textile Ancestry..does it show? lol....I have never wielded a big hammer though,to smash machinery..that was a chap called Enoch ! there is a carving on one of our local village green's ,depicting Enoch's hammer..also a local Real Ale named after him too....

We're lucky living in this time, it must have been hell then:-)
