Once again,we went out with Carole and Harry for a lovely lunch together, which just happened to be near a very large Garden centre in the Wakefield area…and one we haven’t taken them to before..(not many more on the list to try now) .
To say Carole was delighted at the huge choice and prices, was an understatement ! Naturally,we both saw things we just had to have..and needed a trolley :o) I had the bigger part at the bottom ,and Carole filled the smaller top bit to capacity..
Here are mine…
One of these is a gift for a very dear friend, who will be celebrating her 90th birthday next week, and loves her pots in her garden..the other is mine, all mine..but haven’t decided which yet..both equally as nice..

This White Dicentra jumped into my trolley as well..:o)

We finished off with a nice cuppa, and any choice of cake for only £1.89p each….we chose home made scones..although Carole and I shared one, they were so big.!

Back home, and a couple of Petunia pots in my garden..

another lovely day out in the warm sunshine…so yes,two happy Ladies :o)

Well Done. That's what I like to hear, ladies having a good spend up on garden plants. Nice choices there Sandra.

Isn't it amazing how plants find you? They can't wait to hit your trolley and I can never persuade them to go back lol!
Lovely selection. Lovely day. Painful bank balance.

You two are always "gadding off" somewhere, and isn't it funny, how theres always a GC nearby... wot you like you two!Love your pots of Petunias, were they already planted up or are they your pots, very nice ones too! I'd keep the first planter, but thats because I like trailing verbena :-)

Lovely choices especially the white Dicentra. I do admire your steely decision to share a scone. I get 2 free coffees or tea each month with my GC membership card. I take along a tupperware box to bring home a cream filled scone, they always offer two for the price of one but neither of us are able to eat such monsters.

Thanks Cinders..it's amazing how new plants lift the spirits..better than clothes buying, any day..that's why I walk round in old tatty stuff ! :o)x

30 Jun, 2013

It certainly is Tet,and thank you..I think they must have hidden magnets in the pots,to stick to the trolley..:o) Plants 1,bank balance 0..I like bread and jam, anyway.:o)

Retirement is ace, isn't it Val? out and about with good company, throwing caution to the wind Lol.
The pots are my own,but the wooden one is quite new..first time I've used it,and thought I would have a single colour in both of those, this year, for a change..not home grown, got them from our local market..I only went back to having Petunias last year,.but I'm pleased with them..The other pot also has trailing Verbena, but they haven't opened yet..:o)

Lovely pots Bloomer.....Like the first one....especially the Bacopa....

30 Jun, 2013

Thank you,Kidsgran..I have wanted a white one for ages now,so it was bite the bullet day :o) Carole and I only shared a scone because we had already had a naughty dessert at lunchtime! I also have a card from anywhere that has them..they take up lots of purse space! they are mainly the ones where you buy five, and get the sixth free...i got four stamps on mine yesterday :o))

30 Jun, 2013

Thank you Moti..that was the one I chose for myself, but since getting them home,I still haven't decided..I have till next weekend to stop dithering about ! I know my friend would like either :o)

30 Jun, 2013

Sounds like a 'perfick' day to me!!!!

30 Jun, 2013

I love the white Dicentra particularly, but they are all very pretty, colourful flowers!

Buying plants always lifts my spirits, a great way to cheer myself up I find:)

30 Jun, 2013

White Dicentra are gorgeous but they don't seem to be very long lived...maybe its's my soil!

Lovely happy blog Bloomer xxx

30 Jun, 2013

Oh it was,Paul, thank you...I hope the Dicentra doesn't die on me then..do you mean they are usually short lived,or are they prone to frost? Would it be better if I planted it in a pot,and overwintered it in my growhouse for protection? I hadn't really thought about that aspect..maybe I should check it out..thanks for the info, anyway :o)

30 Jun, 2013

Thank you Louisa...buying new plants does the same for me too..and watching them thrive It's such a lovely time of year...:o)

30 Jun, 2013

Thank you Pam..I AM happy :o) the only way to go. Lol xx

30 Jun, 2013

Hi Sandra didnt we have a lovely day and what a fantastic GC still can't believe the prices! I have been in the garden all day, planting my bargain plants, I have put my Dicentra in a pot for the time being, Im running out of space lol Thanks once again to you and Russell for finding yet another hidden gem ;0)

30 Jun, 2013

Hi Carole..we certainly did..I was out till almost 8pm last night, sorting and swapping around.! I have been wondering where you managed to find spaces in your already packed garden ,but I had every faith in you :o)
Strangely enough,we were in that area again today,as we went with Alison and Thomas to a nearby farm shop, which has a great play area where he could run wild ..and he did ! Lol..we were able to just sit and watch in the sunshine..I daren't even suggest we called in the GC again :o))xxx

No better way to spend a day and I have the same problem with plants jumping into my trolley. Have heard that it's incurable; if they're attracted to you there's nothing can be done. Sorry, you just have to grin and bear it!!

30 Jun, 2013

It's very catching,T.bear, but an affliction I can cope with..I hope they never find a cure..only wish someone could invent a stretchy garden ! Lol

30 Jun, 2013

Its a good job we weren't with you I dont know how I wouldnt have beenable to
resist lol

30 Jun, 2013

Lol Bloomer what a great time you had love your pots and the Dicentra, mine is in a shady spot in the garden all year round so I hope yours grows well for you :o)

30 Jun, 2013

I know,Carole..I was half hoping someone would suggest calling in,but daren't ask ! now if you had been with us,they would have been very polite and agreed ! Lol.
By the way,the grill on my cooker packed in tonight..just as I was making our evening meal.I guess plants will have to take 2nd place for a while..or,..wait for it...put on a back burner ! Sorry,I know that's so bad :o)

30 Jun, 2013

Thank you Neellan..glad you like the pots...We had a lovely day out as usual :o)
The label on the Dicentra states part shaded area..so I will keep my fingers crossed that it likes living here Lol.

30 Jun, 2013

Sorry to hear about your grill Sandra more expense! hope that doesnt mean less outings and money to spend on plants lol

1 Jul, 2013

Nothing will get in the way of going out,Carole..I can easily change what I cook...or go out! Lol.

1 Jul, 2013

Wow, a great selection of plants there Sandra.....I can just picture you and Carole having a whale of a time......I would quite enjoy a weeks holiday in a garden centre.....Lol!

1 Jul, 2013

Thanks Janey,it is like an Aladdin's cave at that garden centre, and all looked to be mainly in very good condition too..Carole and I will book you in for a week with us :o)

1 Jul, 2013

Lovely plants!!!......I think I know which GC you went too, we used to go there occasionally when we were in Harrogate.....great place it was too.....as evidenced by your purchases....lol That dicentra will be hardy...don't put it in the growhouse over winter!!...it will be best in the border in a light shade. I have a white one and it is a smasher!!...had it about 4 years now ...

2 Jul, 2013

Hi Lou..I thought you would be away on your cruise now:o) It is called,Hampsons, outside Wakefield, and we used to have one in Huddersfield, many years ago,at Dalton,if you remember the area..the only GC around,at that time.so it shows how long ago that was..!
Thanks for that advice,it does say light shade on the label, and I have a sheltered area ..but I will probably have to move something else,to plant it out..!If they survive in your part of the country,I guess it will be ok here :o) x

2 Jul, 2013

We go next Tuesday......starting to get quite excited :)

2 Jul, 2013

Oh lucky you..I hope you have a great time..I am so envious!.I don't think we will be cruising this year :o(

2 Jul, 2013

B. I just have to say this........how good of you to describe yourself as having ''the bigger part of the bottom''!!!! and Carole had the ''smaller top'' !!!! LOL. I did laugh, photo please of the two of you so we can see!!(only joking!) Glad you had a great day out. :) x

3 Jul, 2013

Trust you,G.mage ! lol..I must watch how I phrase things in future...just in case you read them .ha ha..and I'm not going to tell you !!..see some of previous pics on our last holiday in April..and judge for yourself :o) xx

3 Jul, 2013

Couldn't resist B. it's the way I read it and it did make me laugh. Lol. x

3 Jul, 2013

What a beautiful, happy, sunny blog, Bloomer. That sounds like a perfect day to me, too. I'm so glad you both had a good time.
Good Gracious, that white Dicentra would not only have jumped into my trolley, it would have formed a gang with lots of other plants, chased me round the GC and positively pole-vaulted in!
Our "local" (only 40 kms away) garden centre (well, it's the only proper one we've ever found) was a frenzy of activity from 8 in the morning until 8 at night for the whole of March, April, May and June, but we visited the other day (it's a major source of entertainment for us) and the shelves and greenhouses were dreadfully depleted, and the staff looked exhausted, and were probably staying up late nights, planning what they were going to spend all my money on. I dread to tell OH what the total sum we've spent is - he'd have a heart attack. I find it interesting that you are still able to find annuals at this late stage of the year. Our garden does look nice, though, and we've not spent much on plants over the past 7 years, so that's MY excuse, and I'm sticking to it.
My daydream at the moment is buying the two huge, perfectly shaped silvery fir trees in tubs to put either side of the front door at Christmas, but since they'd set us back over €550 each, and we would need a very big lorry to deliver them, maybe I should re-think things. I think OH would do well to keep me away from the place for a while. I shall just have to make my own coffee and cakes.

Glad you enjoyed our visit ,Gattina..so many things still on sale, because everyone was loth to buy earlier in the season, after the last two 'summers'.we never had..it was a case of 'let's wait and see ' ..me included..plus,this year a lot of us had failures with seed sowing because of the cold..three measly Cosmos is all I had to show for my effort this year..and some Zinnias..most of which have been feasted upon..except for another three in a pot ! Lol.
Well, they do say everything comes in threes, don't they?
Anyway,it is now officially summer..11.45 pm now,and still reading 20 degrees ,very muggy,so it's time for another sleepless night...but set to be cooler and fresher tomorrow..much more acceptable, and more like we are used to ..heating up again by Friday ! x

9 Jul, 2013

We are being very lucky so far this year, Bloomer - the nights are SO much cooler and fresher than normal, so no biting insects yet, and we still have bedclothes! The days are quite moderate for July, too. My seed sowing has been very hit and miss, too, with the unusual temperature highs and lows through Spring - I've had more luck with self-sown seedings from last year than with anything that's come out of a seed-tray.
We're off to a concert in the middle of Bologna on Monday, and the temperature is predicted to be well up in the thirties - I just hope the theatre has air conditioning or we'll all be melting and gasping for air. Enjoy your lovely weather!
