All my Pelargoniums and tender Fuchsia’s have been safely under cover for a while, but just hadn’t got round to doing the final tidy up,in the garden. Most of the pots still had lots of colour, but after the last weekend’s bitter cold, the inevitable had arrived. Looking at the leaden grey sky,the intermitent rain,I finally decided to go for it after lunch. The
single Dahlias were the first,as the foliage was blackened. As the packet said they were Annuals,I was ready to consign them to the compost heap..but when I started trying to dig them up,to my surprise,I found they had made huge tubers ,so am going to dry them off…3 pots of them..Next were the bizzie lizzy’s,but one pot was still looking good,as in a sheltered position,so have left it.
Then I heard ‘Hello’,and our daughter called with Thomas,en route to town,so up to my elbows in muck..and wet muck at that,(very untidy gardener, however hard I try not to be).I had to break off, scrub up,as of course,I had to have a cuddle with him :o) I then went back out when they left, and started again..half an hour later,OH said ‘do you know what time it is?’in THAT tone of voice, which suggested I should
know,so replied with a matching sarcastic comment,to which he said,‘have you forgotten we are going for our Flu jabs in 30 minutes’?..Oh,sugar***,I said..In again, scrubbed up..again..changed,and almost ran to the health centre..luckily only across the road…made it on time.My hair was wet and looked a right mess, just flat as the proverbial, but the nurse was very tactful, but sure she was thinking I was in need of her medical expertise..Lol.
So,still lots to do,here’s hoping I can do it without distractions soon…Tomorrow is another day…:o)

good news about those dahlias, hope i will be able to keep mine till next year ~ they are still out.
i know what you mean by THAT tone of voice!! mine usually comes into the kitchen and says 'is there anything i can do' ~ this is estate agent type language ~ it really means ~ is the tea ready yet ~ and if not how long will it be???

Good news on the Dahlia tubers ... I leave mine in the ground with a mulch of compost over the top ... one heavy frost saw the flowers fade and the leaves blacken overnight ! You must have the cleanest gardening hands now ... all that scrubbing up ! Worth it though to have cuddled Thomas ! : o ))

IThey were seeds from an old packet lurking in my seed box, freebies from a magazine..it definitely says mixed annuals..I can't believe how massive the tubers are in one season..from seeds. Hands are looking very ladylike tonight,Shirley...just wait till tomorrow, weather permitting Lol.

Can just imagine you Sandra lol and I recognise that tone of voice, I hear it a lot when Im in the garden!! Im feeling much better today thank goodness, not used to feeling under the weather!

I have been cutting back and into the compost bin as each plant's leaves die off. This is quite handy as I only have to do a few each day. All my tender plants are indoors, but there are still a lot of leaves to come down from the trees. Collecting and bagging is serious hard work, even with my electric blower.

Its always the way,Clarice..but then,.we CAN multi task..Lol.
Glad you are feeling better today Carole, and hope you managed to get outside,as its been so lovely today.Got everything finished and planted up..Russell was up at Alison's...:o))...We went for a long walk this afternoon as it was so nice.
Linda,we have a large Sycamore across the road, and its a nightmare when the leaves fall.We have to collect them as most of the neighbours are elderly, and the younger ones never offer..i agree, its very hard work.

I forget everything....especially when I'm in the garden...that's partly why I love it!! Glad it's not only me!

I wish I could be in the garden all year round, apart from forgetting the time, I even forget to eat which is great as I lose a bit of weight, then spend all autumn and winter putting it back on again.lol. Just had a sudden thought, it must be lovely being a plant (having all that cossetting) - no forget that I`d probalbly be a weed and get sprayed with a horrible chemical.lol.
Just keep on being your madcap you Bloomer your blogs always cheer me up.

I think we all blank out when gardening,Karen,a great stress buster..till you hear 'that voice' that
brings you back to reality again..Lol..
Thanks stroller..its being so cheerful that keeps me going....who used to say that on the Radio ? or the Wireless,as i sometimes still call it.Lol.I am 'wireless'the second time round now, with the router for my laptop..:o))

Mum tells me it was the catchphrase of Mrs. Mop in the wartime radio show, 'It's that man again'. Way before my time.

This usually happens to me when I have decided to totally revamp one side of the garden border, two of our daughters live minutes away and are always popping in with the children, in the end I just give up, scrub up, and go in and have a cuppa with them, and start again tomorrow!! hope you go it all finished in the end.
