Been a while.

It has been quite some time since i’ve been on here or managed to get in the garden but this last week i have managed to get in the garden and do some improvements. Luckily i dodged all the bad weather and completed what i wanted to do this week.
A friend of a friend made a fence to our own design, which i think he did a brilliant job of making.

I also had quite a damp low corner at the back of my garage that needed a bit of a makeover as cheap as i could, so i ummed and arred for a while and came up with the pictures below.
I hope you like my pictures.

The fence took a lot to get it home and very heavy steel on top of an old 101 Landrover with the top off praying that it didn’t rain for 60miles

I’m not sure whether to leave it in the silver or paint it, but i was told to leave it for a few weeks as only just freshly galvanised. If anyone has any ideas of what metal colour or paint to use i would appreciate any.

Just a view from off the patio, my table and chairs look too small now.

I put this pergola in late last year, and dug it over then left a weed fabric on till i could do more.

I gambled on this walling, it was so easy no concrete or mortar needed just back filled with gravel on a level base.

Then i bought cheap pea gravel £38 for a 850kg bag and filled the space up with old plants that have been waiting and bits and bobs found in charity shops. At the back where the fence is low i have planted bamboo in pots in the ground and tree lillies so hopefully this will give privacy eventually.

I had lots of the walling left over so i put them around the borders near the back to tidy that up too..The one on the left is only put in place, the other side as been finished off.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my blog, what a way to spend your holidays i can’t wait to go back to work for a rest..

Just love the new fence, I'd leave it as it is rather than paint it :)

Oh wow! Bill, what a brilliant job(s). I love your fence...very 'art deco' isn't it?! Wonderful. I like it silver I must say and think it would look good in blue as well if you really want to paint it. I would leave it...less work! Your gravel garden is amazing too...what a difference. And the views of the whole garden look great. Jobs well done..enjoy now! :))

Thanks. Daylily, suzywonkles (great name) (hope its not your real one lol) and Karensusan.. It cost me a fair bit of money because of the cost of steel so i don't want to make the mistake of painting it if i don't need too. Most people are saying leave it silver so i may just do that.. Still got a fair bit to do at the very back so not quite time to sit and enjoy yet karensusan.. Thanks all :-)

I really like the railing around the patio and the gravel area looks grand, in fact the whole garden does....

Very imaginative - looking really good, and that fence is unique. I would leave it silver, for now at any rate. You can always paint it in a year or two if you get tired of it, but just now it looks great. I hope you will find time to sit in your lovely private corner!

Thanks Lincslass...It is nice to share pictures with such lovely people. We all love our own gardens and have our own ideas of what we like and it is thrilling when we do something and people post nice comments.Sometimes people might not like what we do but are never negative which gives us the boost to keep going and trying in our own way.

Thanks Steragram. I have to leave it for a little while for a reason i cant remember right now. I think i shall have to concentrate on getting my bathroom plastered and a new bathroom suite now. Or do i buy a summerhouse? lol

Hello, Bill, So nice to see you back again. My word, you've been busy - I LOVE that fence! Personally, like Steragram, I'd leave it silver, too. The garden's looking pretty good, as well.

Thanks Gattina, nice to hear from you too,and your nice comments. I've not been on here for quite some time until today and so far i have been on it on and off for nearly 8 hours. I can't always come on because i work a 60hour week so i have to make the most of it when i can.

Do we all have to wear stillettos?

10 May, 2012

Erm i was thinking of just using a fork myself but if you can get size 10 mens boots with heels i might just wear them. but only for the goodness of the garden you understand..

10 May, 2012

Looking forward to the blog then:-)

Thanks Homebird.. I'm glad most people are saying leave it silver because i can see it being a real pain to paint. Who knows though when i have no plants to plant in the summer i might get bored and dig out the paint brush. Hopefully all the clematis will survive being pushed around by the gravel and will grow up the posts.
Bornagain, if we did have the party i'm not sure i would post a post lol..
