*NEW GROWTH TO LIFT THE SPIRITS*

*After the long cold Winter and the havoc it played on our gardens, it has been diificult at times not to feel down hearted, especially when you have lost some of your favourite plants, so I decided to stop counting my losses and be positive by looking at what has survived.
Armed with my camera I set off to search for signs of new growth. After a few minutes poking about in the borders I began to feel excited seeing all the new growth. The whole exercise ae been such a tonic giving me a much needed boost, as I think how much I am going to enjoy the days ahead watching lots of old friends grow and bloom and new plants flourish. Here are a few pictures I would like to share with you.

I really enjoyed this blog, lovely to see new growth at last ! Well done on the Golden Showers rose cuttings. Do you find the Welsh Poppies seed everywhere ?

Lovely blog, PP, and you're so clever to remember what everything is. I keep looking at things now popping up in my garden and wonder what on earth it is!
I have only just sown the lavertera seeds you sent me but have loads of tiny viola and aquilegia seedlings in the greenhouse. Thank you! Good job you haven't a tortoise trio in your garden, your sedum would disappear in minutes :)

Thank you enjoyed your blog. I am not much good with names but I can recognize a lot of plants and know what is growing. You are going to be so busy planting your seedlings etc but it is a "lovely" busy isn't it? Love Sue

The tortoises eat young leaves of lots of plants, PP, but I was surprised to see Josie (biggest) eating eunonymus leaves last year. I leave some dandelions in the lawn and flower bed for them to find. They love the flower heads of hibiscus, poppy and evening primrose but, fortunately, most are out of reach. They also like rose petals :)

Holly mine have already been harden up outside for over a week now, but if the snow arrives will bring them in.Thought I would put them in pots up a Obilisk

Gee you have certainly got your work cut out keeping your eyes on those three nibblers lol

Thanks Hywel it has really put the smile back on my face lol

I'm so glad of that. The longer evenings helps aswell. I was just in my shed earlier on and I thought it was about 4 oclock. When I checked it was 5.30 lol

I liked your positive attitude & the sights of all the new growth in your garden, PP! I find myself looking out all the time for something new whether it be on my balcony or in other people's gardens! I like trying to identify plants just as soon as I possibly can. Of course it's generally almost impossible to identify varieties but being able to say this is such & such a plant is quite satisfying! (Especially if you tell somebody who doesn't know any better!!!)

28 Mar, 2010

Thanks Balcony lol
No what you mean Hywel it seems a long day to day!

28 Mar, 2010

You've done well with your seedlings, PP.
I've been cleaning out the blocked gutters over my garage...:o(
Lots of rain due this week, so I reckon I did the task just in time ! :o)

30 Mar, 2010

Not a pleasant task TT, but a very worthwhile one in our climate lol

30 Mar, 2010

First we worry about the cold then we have to worry about to much rain beating them up, just like raising little ones LOL

28 May, 2010

I agree Patsty the soil is either like dry dust or waterlogged, still with our help the majority of plants flourish and blossom;0)
