At Last The Snow Has Gone

We have had wall to wall sunshine these last few day and the last of the snow has dissapeared. Although its still very cold it has been a joy to get out into the garden and see the new growth peeping through and some plants dressed in their Spring colours. So if you would like a little tour of what is happening in my garden wrap up warm and enjoy!

We will start on the Patio area and the adjoining lower rockery. All the pots have managed to survive the freezing Temperatures and the rockery is full of Crocus,Mini Daffs and newly emerging spring plants.

The Patio has a seating area which runs the width of the house, this is where I also keep my Mini Green house and an array of pots.

There are centre steps leading onto a middle level then further steps to the left and right which lead onto the main garden.

We are now onto the main garden area with the left border, I have been very busy this last few days tidying, cutting back and hoeing all the borders, the main colour at the moment is from the bulbs and primulas, but lots if other promising signs of the delights to come.

The next three pictures show the Rockery Bed that Harry and I made last year, it is one of my favourite parts of the garden and even though its early in the year it is looking good;0)

The little Pond area another of my favourite parts which was also another project by Harry and I, there is a blog about it for those of you who maybe interested and have are not already familar with it. The Pond as been frozen solid over these past few weeks and it wasnt until yester day that I finally managed to remove the last of the ice.
Just hope that any wildlife that was living there has survived.

The right hand border which is very sunny and the cottage style plants do very well here in the summer months, we have just had to replace the fencing on this side which was very hard work due to the amount of shubbery that had to be chopped down!

The peonies are putting on lots growth, I love to see the lovely red shoots pushing their way through the soil.

Look Sandra! your Hyacinth Bulbs are almost ready to flower ;0)

The bulbs at the top of the right hand steps look very pretty here, there are lots of Primula in bud too!

This is Polly’s Resting Place [My Beloved litlle Scotty Dog] I always try to make sure that there is something in flower throughout the year;0)

We are now back on the Patio area now, This is Robin’ s Christmas present to me, its looking very healthy and has survived the bad weather very well.

For those of you who may wonder what I have been up to during the bad weather, well I have been sowing lots of seeds for the summer borders and pots.
They include:- Lavertera [white and pink], Cosmos [white], Nepeta, Erygngium, Hollyhocks, Foxgloves, Salvia and Nasturtiums.

Here they are on the staging that Harry made for me [and very useful it is too] it is in the Windows in the Utility room. They were sown just over a fortnight ago,

These are sprouting already
White Lavertera

White Cosmos

Nastutiums

So Im looking forward to a very colourful Summer ;0)

Thank you for viewing and hope you enjoyed!!

So pleased you managed to get out into your lovely garden, Carole ... I do love all your evergreens and agree with Karen on your neatly edged lawn. Your seedlings look strong and healthy ... I have nowhere to grow them indoors and it's so cold in the greenhouse that I've only sown French and Runner Beans for the allotment. Roll on warmer weather! ... :o)

Beautiful garden Carole, lots going on in your garden, mine looks like something has come through it overnight and sucked life out of it...a bit like in the ' Care Bears' children programme..when all the colours disappeared and the care bears saved the day every time..LOL..I used to watch this programme with my daughter 20 odd years ago..lol.

You have been busy Carole it's always a joy to stroll round your garden ,i'm glad you have finished the fencing project it's had work and not a job you want to do very often , we had a little snow yesterday morning , your pots are tougher than ours we have several broken ones some have great chunks falling off them , the wind had blown one over in the night and smashed it :o(
I nearly forgot to mention how good your seedlings are looking , well done your garden will be a blaze of colour this year x

6 Apr, 2013

I'm so jealous Carole, mine looks sas and dreadful:-( I love all your plantings and separate areas all bursting with new life. I am going to start sowing seeds soon and have sent off for some new calendulas which are definitely not orange or yellow. Some are Russian ones the pink ones and the cream ones are, also sent for bronze ones:-) I've no idea why I'm trying calendulas this year, never really keen, just a fancy of mine:-))

6 Apr, 2013

Lovely garden! So lovely to see so many bright Crocuses blooming all around! Daffs are such a staple part of the spring borders that not to have some would seem like a crime! I have both Crocuses & Daffs as well as Hyacinths flowering on my balcony at present!

Everything looks so lovely once we get a day or two of warm(ish) sunshine!

6 Apr, 2013

Thanks Terra, hope you are all well, not seen you around for while;0)

Thanks BA Lovely day here , been in the garden most of the day, Im sure yours will soon be springing to life, I have never grown Calendulas, cream and pink ones sound really nice;0)

I have enjoyed taking a look around your garden Carole, its lovely with its various beds and borders, even nicer with the sun shining on the spring flowers and so much to look forward to in the weeks ahead, your seeds are doing grand in the utility room, mine seemed so slow even in the greenhouse but at least I can now see some green showing through....
Don't think I could pick a favourite bed, its all smashing....

7 Apr, 2013

Oh I have enjoyed the tour Carole you have so much of interest to show. The rockery has come on well I can remember you and OH doing that. I love the way the steps take you up to each level and your conservatory is just to die for.
We have had a few days of sun but even last night we have a slight frost but I shall make myself go out tomorrow and do some clearing and weeding.

7 Apr, 2013

I was gardening today yay!!!!! Hardly any snow left. Went mad with the secateurs and chopped my Austin roses on the front. I'm no good at pruning and talked myself into making them look like the ones in the garden centre, very chopped. Congratulating myself on my bravery, I put on Gardeners world on the radio only to hear Bob Flowerdew say not to prune roses ...only once every 5 years at most! Now I'm panicking that I've ruined them:-(

7 Apr, 2013

I was out there all day too..great:o) That seems contrary to advice we get about Roses,Ba..something I've never heard before..I take some off mine every Autumn, and then prune them properly in early spring..wouldn't they look weak and spindly, otherwise ?

8 Apr, 2013

Thanks Lincslass, Stroller and BA for all your lovely comments.

BA I agree with Sandra always cut my Roses back in Autumn and again in Spring and never have any problems, I have never heard Bob Flowerdews advice before, the saying is usually cut back to a ripe bud to promote new growth, so I dont think I would worry about yours. Will be interesting to hear what other Goyers think!

Hi Sandra pleased you enjoyed your day in the garden, I have been out again today planting some cuttings I took last year of Hebe's and Sedum, going to clear the pond this afternoon;0)

8 Apr, 2013

Love it, love it, love it. Just my kind of garden. Can't wait to see it all in full bloom.:)

8 Apr, 2013

I bet you were out on Saturday, too, after we each went our separate ways ..I know we were ,as it was too nice to be indoors...Those flowers I bought look very nice, hope yours do as well :o)

8 Apr, 2013

Hi Cosmos so pleased you like my garden,,will put a picyure on when its in full bloom;0)

There is no keeping me indoors when the sun is shining Sandra lol pleased your flowers look nice, Im happy with mine too;0))

8 Apr, 2013

8 Apr, 2013

9 Apr, 2013

9 Apr, 2013

Thanks Iren pleased you enjoyed my garden;0)

BA hope Iclar doesnt think we are trying to kidnap her identity!

9 Apr, 2013

I think someone else has also had this name applied to them too,Carole...but can't remember who..also I don't think I have ever seen a blog or pics from this member....

9 Apr, 2013

I've looked and Iciar has photos on and one question, not been on for a while. I've no idea how this can happen and why it always seems to be Iciar...it's a mystery ... doo doo doo do ( cue mystery music) :-))

9 Apr, 2013

What a stunning garden you have Carole, even in this very cold spring, lots there to enjoy and all those different areas full of interest. It looks a real picture and all your hard works paying off....roll on warmer weather, to give those seeds a boost, at least yours are showing Carole....mines just brown compost as yet....lol!

Hi guys,

You seem to have experience with gardening. I'll introduce myself.

My name is Stephanie and I'm currently writing my bachelor thesis on the usage of grow lights and the online market for grow lights. In order to gain insight I have spoken to several persons on similar forums. I was getting alot of information and decided to make a tiny questonnaire. (By grow lights I mean any form of lighting used to help plants grow)

I would really appreciate if you can help me out by filling it in. It will take no more than 1 minute of your time. It does not matter if you do not use grow lights, your response is still helpful.

This is not being used for commercial purposes, just for my bachelor thesis.

Here is the link to the survey (copy and paste link) http://edu.surveygizmo.com/s3/1208298/Grow-lights-survey

Your response is highly appreciated!! Thank you so so much in advance.
