A Special Townsville Garden

My daughter and (almost) son-in-law took me to visit Bernie’s fabulous Queensland garden and beautiful gracious old house known as a “Queenslander”. These are distinctive houses because they are high and I suppose they are cooler and a more snake proof.

The garden was one containing many aspects. The shade house was brimming with gorgeous plants, all backed by mature ferns. The entrance was overflowing with flowering plants, including Asiatic lilies. Bernie is particularly fond of the lilies and no wonder as we could smell the scent before seeing them. I really liked an Australian violet which I have seen at Kew Gardens. Unfortunately, I did not photograph this plant. (Hint! Maybe you could photograph this Bernie.)

Here we were served home made scones and cream and muffins. In fact, they were so popular, Bernie’s husband had to go in and get more scones which meant we ate all the spares which were probably meant for him.

This entrance led to the huge verandahs which ran down two sides of the house. We admired the views of the surrounding range of hills which were close because the house is in the foothills. The land runs down hill to a creek and the wider garden where there is more work in progress.

The new addition to the family is a wonderful dog of over seven years. He is very well behaved and probably scares the snakes. Actually, Bernie did worry that some of the wildlife would move further away when the dog was introduced.

Thankyou and your husband for a wonderful morning Bernie.

Enjoyed your blog, but could not see any photos. Not sure if you put any up, or if I for some reason I am not able to see them.

Thankyou Dwyllis and Terratoonie. I was in enough trouble working out how to do a blog on GoY, but photographs are just beyond me.

Thankyou Terratoonie. You might be sorry you offered help. I am not very good at working the computer and everything I know came from another forum which I joined at the same time as GoY. However, it operates in a different fashion, which is good. Bernie had only been on the forum for a couple of months and she did offer assistance at that time, but I felt too silly to accept the help. Mistaken pride? Probably.

Yes Hywel and she pats her plants too! She comes home from work and starts straight in on the garden. However, it is kept so beautifully, it does not look much of a chore, but this can't be true because the heat alone is a test of stamina. I saw it after the hard work had been done. However, the materials are there for the next stage of the garden, but I wonder if Bernie will do this in the heat of high summer.

I shouldn't think she'd do it in summer. I understand the heat and rain are too much.

Heather, when you do your blog, scroll down to the bottom& it will say Include Photos. Click onto that & it will go to another 'page' (if you have put any photos onto GoY, you will see a row of them on this new 'page'. Scroll down a little bit & you will see it say something like Choose File ....there will be two more Choose File beneath that. Click onto that & your various photo files will pop up & then you just choose the photo file you want & it will open it. Then all you have to do is click onto the photo you want to put up .....you may also need to click on the word Open which may appear below each photo you choose. Repeat for subsequent photos ...once three have been uploaded, then click onto Include Photos at the bottom. That will then post your photos onto your blog. If you want to upload further photos, scroll down to bottom again, & repeat the whole process. When you have finished uploading, click on Publish at the bottom. It sounds complicated, but it really isn't. Hope that helps.

That is very kind of you Dwyllis. I will look at this tomorrow and find out how to put the photos onto GoY to start with. You don't know how bad at this I am. It is appreciated so thank you.
