Community Garden July 09

Hi, I thought I would update everyone on how the Community Garden has progressed over the summer. Considering we thought it would only last for a week or so without it being trashed, it has come on in leaps and bounds and we are actually eating what we are growing!!!

The kids joined in a “Strawberry Fair” making scarecrows for the community garden, and eating strawberries and ice-cream – they went down really well!

The kids come and help water and are quite possessive of the garden with one little un saying “get off our garden” to some of the older kids! They have decorated it themselves and are talking about when the pumpkin grows for Halloween putting some graves around to warn off the naughty kids!!

I’m just so pleased that it has worked – they are asking questions, eating the veggies and planning what to grow next year – what could be better???

Thats three in a row then GS. I love the idea of community gardens and getting kids involved. Ever since I started my garden (two years ago) Holly has been transfixed with growing and is now eating her veg and even enjoys a few carrot sticks with her packed lunch (instead of biscuits)
Keep up all the good work :~))
